and you are how old? Maybe he is upset at the question because he once was engaged and something tragic happened and traumatized him about marriage?
Not everyone's place in this world is marriage, some prefer and function better alone; being with friends and family.
Whoever said being married was a 'HAVE TO BE' thing?

He is probably sick of hearing the same question from women and some have probably thrown the fact he has been unmarried in his face a lot , I was married and I get the why didn't I ever have kids question constantly from women I don't get angry but I do get sick of trying to explain why.......

It might be an upsetting subject for him, perhaps something has happened to him before and his way of reacting to your question is anger, or he is upset that he never took the chance to get married, or never felt close enough to someone and uses anger to hide that

You sound MUCH younger, but obviously he has reasons - prolly afraid of commitment - ask how long his relationships ever lasted! I bet they never lasted longer than 9 months. RUN!
