Check out the local kpix site, http://cbs5.com/jeffersonawards, the Jefferson awards are given to people making a difference in the community, you may find an organization you would like to get involved with there, also in craigs list they have a section for volunteers, also bay area volunteer organization http://www.volunteerinfo.org/
