seems abnormal due to galls. maybe northern red oak

The pic makes me think of a western sycamore, particularly the top ridges. However, it would really help to know where it was collected and any information about the tree itself; what type of bark, any fruits, or how tall?? etc.. Oak could be right, they seem to vary a lot.

Very interesting. Not knowing where it's from, it's hard to say whether it's an odd or deformed example, or whether it's normal. Maybe an Oak of some kind, but that veining pattern seems different to me.
