Federal law requires that you be 18 years of age or older to purchase Rifles and Shotguns..21 years of age for Handguns.
Most states only require a state issued photo ID (Drivers License or Age of Majority I.D.) to prove residency and your age. The store will run a phone NICS check before the sale, then you are good to go...
*NOTE..Some states require you to obtain a FOID card (Firearms Identification ID) to buy firearms of any type.......

It depends what your state's laws are. In MA, you need a firearm license, and there are mandatory background checks and waiting periods.

tou need a license to hunt you can buy a rifle for target or shot gun for skeet shooting no license required
