how do visa gift cards work? what is the activation fee or something? if i want to give it to someone, would that person have to pay anything first? or can he use it right away? thx

There is no activation fee. It's just like a debit card, but it's not linked to any personal account. You can use it at ATMs if there's enough of a balance on the card to cover a withdrawal - and there WILL be a fee deducted for ATM use.

Ive had problems with Visa gift cards in the past. Fee's for using it and also fee's for just checking the balance. I also have had problems with stores not knowing how to use it. American express has no fee's I personally think that's best.

no fee you pay the amout to be posted on the card and tell the person you gave them a $x card.
great gift.
