My cat Austin was 10 years old. He was a short hair cat and was grey with white socks and a white bib under his chin and on his chest. He seemed normal last night and this morning.. I came home @ noon and went to say hi to him and he did not respond.. He looked like he was just sleeping on his bed... When I touched him I thought he might be dead .. I yelled to my wife to check him and he was dead.. I could not do much .. I put a soft fleece blanket in a tote and she picked him up in his bed and layed him in the tote bin. We covered him over and took him to the vet so he could be cremated :( I am not sure how his sister will take it... she was his litter mate..

Austin was a sweet gentle giant he loved to be kissed on the head and would hop on the couch and head but me until I kissed his head.

My answer is I do not know if he knew he was going to die but he was in his bed one of two he likes to sleep in...

He was very sick once 5 years ago and we found him hiding in the cellar..

They say that cats know and will go find a dark quiet place to lay down.

If they're feeling miserable, they look for a quiet dark place. But that doesn't mean they're 'dying', just sick. It's your responsibility as owner to make sure they get proper vet care.

it depends on your cat and how it feels if it feels it needs to see you in its last minutes it will come home if it wishes to be alone that's how it shall be.

They usually go and die alone.
