one rose is all it takes to make a girl smile on the first date.
-jus make sure wen u walk up to her, u hold the rose behind you. hiding it. then wen ur in front of her. kiss her lightly on the cheek or lips, then giv her the rose.

She should be satisfied that you're bringing your manly self. You're all the gift she needs.
Seriously, I wouldn't consider a gift necessary for a first date. A few non-rose flowers or chocolate might be appropriate if you want.
