I am wanting to get my 16 year old daughter one for Christmas. it will be in indoor cat. Please help me find one. She has been begging for 2 years for one and is going to be totally not expecting one again this year. She loves calico cats but any color should do. I thought I had one lined up for her but it fell through and recues want way too much money for one.

I have tried shelters. They want $100 or more and I have tried looking on online classifieds.

Please do not reply unless you have a kitten to get rid of or know of someone that does. I have tried the other ways.

please look into this, they are only $5

hope that helped you out.

also you will have to make sure they are up to date on shots. it can get pricey. Also you will have to get her spayed, so that there aren't anymore animals in the shelter.

I would not buy from a shelter either. around here it is 160 for a kitten. but they generally get sick as soon as you bring them home and that costs a lot of money. (its what my friend did, it cost her over $200 in vet bills) i've got all my cats from craiglist and minus mild colds they have never been sick.

Getting it from a shelter or rescue is a WAY better bargin. They will have tested, wormed, and vaccinated the kitten already, saving you probably over a $100. Some even spay them first too.
If it is younger, you may still have to get some vaccines, but you are still saving a TON!!! At the vet, and leukemia test is usually $40 alone!!!

Your best bet would be to go to the local pound or one that is by your home and see what they have to offer. Usually they are given their first shots upon adoption as well as a certificate to have it spayed costing you about $50 for that procedure which is usually around $100 here where I live. I got my female cat from there and i feel good about saving her life because she only had one more day before they put her down so that kinda weighed in my decision to save her and I am so happy with her she is loving and she tries to groom me by licking me as well as follows me like a dog. Cats take a good deal of care if you want them to become good family pets and not the kinda cat who just is there which i have seen in other peoples home. Check to make sure what shots they offer and ask about a good vet who can care for their needs. Not any vet will do.

if you can't afford $100 to adopt a kitten and save a life you can't afford a kitten, you will spend much more than that to get the vet visits to get the vaccinations and to spay/neuter it. shelters will have the kitten up to date with the vaccinations and a lot of them will be spayed/neutered already or they will give you a discount on it.
