I know its really by word of mouth because one guy has pure bred puppies and offered one to me for 500 dollars...lol it would of been differant if it was a large dog breed I never liked small dogs, plus I heard there joints get all messed up.

In six weeks I plan on getting a puppy and am not sure which breed is better.

We live in a house.
Am active somewhat and don't mind taking my dog out any time.
And I plan on taking him/her to puppy school here.

But for anyone in Florida do you know of someone?
My price range is $0-$250, maybe $300 depending on the breed.

I always wanted a pure bred I have had three mixed dogs in the past and I missed them all.

But what is a good breed really?
I had a feeling but my highest offer and last would be 500.

I may get a dog in six weeks because I want to have a account with money in it just for my dog so if it gets sick ect. I don't have to use any other money.

No problem I have had dogs and I spent over $2000 within a month on a puppy that was sick and we didn't know. But I know I can pay for it.

First of all, try going to a shelter. They commonly have young purebred dogs who have been given to them due to the family thinking they were cute at first but then later deciding they didn't want the dog for some reason or another. I know American Eskimoes often end up in rescue as they tend to be loud barkers... but this is just their protective nature. Any dog has the ability to grow up to be a good-natured dog if they undergo proper socialization.

Several breeds have breed-specific rescue and will work with you to ensure you get the proper dog.

YOur local animal shelter will also help you find a dog as they will try to match you with the right dog. So talk to them. Often these dogs will be microchipped, vaccinated, and some will already be spayed or neutered.

Please don't buy from a petstore or backyard breeder. I know that on your budget the only place you will find a purebred is the shelter or a backyard breeder/puppy mill. Save the life of a poor dog in a shelter.

Hi ebony,

Unfortunately, we don't know you, how old you are, your work schedule, your financial situation, or really, anything about you. So, that makes it hard to recommend a dog - even if we just stuck to one of the 150+ breeds that can be registered with the AKC.

I recommend that you visit http://www.akc.org and start figuring out the type of dog that you want.

From there, visit the breed parent club and learn all you can about the breed and where to find a good breeder. The breed parent club will also have information on how to rescue a dog as well.

"Word of mouth" can be good, but in this case, it sounds like backyard breeders. These types of breeders usually have dogs that are low quality (meaning sickly or unsound) and are the reasons that dogs are getting killed in shelters.

Please be sure to do research on where to get a dog. The classified ads, pet shops, internet ads, and the like are not the proper place.

Here's some help:

http://dogplay.com/GettingDog/getting.html

http://dogplay.com/Breeding/ethics.html

http://www.pbrc.net/breeding3.html

And please remember, the $300 you pay is not the end of it. A dog can cost $1000 a year. An emergency, and you will have at least one eventually, is usually around $1000 up front. Is this a problem?

For that price, your only hope is a rescue. No respectable breeder would sell a puppy for that low of a price. Either keep saving up or check out rescues in your area. You can look on Petfinder.com to see what rescues are near you.

I work for a purebreed rescue, you can get a fairly young purebred dog from a rescue. Mixed breeds are wonderful too, but if you have your heart set on a pure breed, there is no reason you can't get one. My pure bred male Doberman is a rescue and he is by far the easiest dog I have ever had. Take a look at rescues near you and you may be pleasantly surprised.

As far as breed, that is up to you because we don't know you or your lifestyle so you need to do some research and find a breed that will match your needs.

1. You are never gonna find a pure bred for that cheap.
2.Dogs die in shelters because people buy from breeders. Don't add to the overpopulation of dogs and cats, get one from the shelter!!

You are looking for a BYB. No good breeder would sell you a puppy for that price, and especailly when you really have no breed in mind.

Check your local classifieds.....you should find puppies of all kinds!!!
