I never thought of Englad as a poor country.....I live in America. America has lots of "poor" places. Check out the inner cities ---- some of them have housing and schools that look like a third world country. I always think of England as really proper and dignified. I wouldn't really know, though, as I've never been. I'm too poor. (not kidding)

Of course not! First and most obviously, the pound is worth a lot more than the dollar. If anything, many Americans see England as a bit more elegant than most of middle America. Obviously, the pound is worth more than the dollar, and London is known as a bustling, historic capital.

No not really... the general american stereotype of england I've seen is that it's basically just like America, only everybody drives on the wrong side of the road, speaks with funny accents, and calls everybody "Guvner". Either that or they're a sex machine like James Bond.

no (hopefully) most of us know that their currency is doing better in the world running than our own, but we do see it as a dank and rainy place full of cobblestone streets and graffitied walls due to the perception of place pop cuture has provided us with. because of this, the place may have a more of an old timey/ run down look in our eyes, which could make someone think it is more poor?

No. More like a middle class country.

I was talking to a Brit who had been working here for a while and was going back. He talked about how happy he was about that, but then sighed. "It was nice being rich, though."
