If the world twisted and moulded people into being jerks, everyone would be a jerk!
Oh, wait a minute...
Never mind.

I really understand what you are saying. Just don't let the cruelties in this world stop you from living a full productive life. Try to surround yourself around healthy-minded positive people. You know what the world has done to me? It taught me that I cannot believe everything that people tell me. I had doctors misdiagnose me on more than one occasion. They tried to convince me as a small child that my illnesses were not real so I had to physically suffer! Eventually the true causes were found and there was even a law suite...which I won! Now I know that I can't just believe something about myself because someone else, no matter who they are, tries to convince me. Be yourself and trust God...you would be surprised at my life and how God has taken care of me! This is a very good question!

If you have the self awareness to recognise that you act like a jerk then you have the ability to change. You may not be responsible for what happened during your formative years, but as an adult you are completely responsible for how you choose to act or react to the events in your life and the choices that you make. Simply blaming the past does not reduce your responsibility for what happens now.

The world may have moulded you into a jerk, but did you choose to stay like that?

Sounds like you have suffered a lot. The important thing to do is not to let other people judge you. I know this is not easy, but ultimately, you have to be two things to yourself. Your own strictest AND your own most lenient judge. Strict in the sense of motivating yourself to improve; this is difficult, in fact impossible by our own unaided efforts. But also lenient, because whatever happens, one human being is the most precious thing in the universe. A wise man once said, "If you take a away the life of one man, it's like you've taken away the life of all mankind. If you save one life, it's like saving the life of all mankind."
Because of this, YOU are of infinite worth; it's difficult to believe when you're having a rough time, I have often doubted this myself; but it's the truth. Have people hurt you? Remember, they've also hurt themselves, because they've in some way dimmed the Divine light within themselves. You also have this light within you, the most precious of possessions. It is love, it is peace, it is God within you.
I don't know whether you have also been hurt and judged by religious people. I would not wish to make excuses for them, but religious believers are also fallible, I believe in God but am also guilty of judging people; it's a serious fault. It's good to take the focus off the people and onto God. He's there. But don't rush it. He will not batter down your door and invade your life. No doubt you have questions. Take your time. Perhaps you feel like praying, or perhaps you don't have the courage; perhaps you can't see him right now. If you only seek with all your heart for the truth you will find it.
I am not going to tell you what to believe, or even that you must believe. That's unhelpful. But I believe we are ALL on a quest for truth, none of us attain perfect knowledge in this life. Maybe at some stage you can do some reading, and see what some people in the past have written. Great men and women have all had struggles, and have overcome them, and there is no doubt that you can too; you are a child of God.
Or again, if you don't feel like reading, that's fine. It's just a suggestion; but the writings of Rabindranath Tagore, Kahlil Gibran and Jalaluddin al-Rumi are really beautiful and 'soul-opening.' St John's Gospel shows that our Christ within will always be with us. The Bhagavad Gita shows the necessity of struggle against our difficulties, and also how the victory is almost within our grasp, for we are all sons of God. It's entirely your choice, these are just a few suggestions of books that might provide comfort.
I really hope that things start working out in your life. If you want to discuss things, I'd be very happy to.
Peace and Blessings

Not everyone has given in to turn into a 'jerk,' especially those who kept a balance in their lives by given some time to refresh their beliefs from the Good Books.
However, a Man always finds excuses & justifications and blames others for his mistakes.*
It depends how much you are convinced yourself on doing good even when you are probably receiving evil from the other end.
Should I remind, 'It's all about turning your other cheek!'
Moreover, 'You allowed others to set your tone!'

So you just LET the world control you?
Sounds to me like you want to be a jerk and then pass the blame onto something else.
Either take responsibility for your own actions or stick a bottle in your mouth and cry for your Mommy.

We were all o.k. when we were young. Well we were if we were loved. Everyone gets hurt; the world can be a cruel place but it is a sign of maturity not to let other people's actions cloud your judgement. I hope you sort yourself out both for yourself and for other people. Not everyone is bad.
