My son has had advanced cancer for almost three years. His doctors have always been totally honest with him about his disease. I would say his attitude and outlook is positive and remarkable. If anything the knowledge that he has this rare cancer has made him strong and better able to fight the cancer. It hasn't made it worse . .it's already miserable to begin with. It would be far worse feeling sick, getting treatment, and not knowing what was going on.

I don't think so as for me I knew it was time to get things done I made out my will arranged for my creation and paid all my bills so as not to leave a burden on those family members that will be left behind. Sure I get depressed at times then I read something in the bible to cheer me up Rev 213&4 there will be a time no more tears or dying . I talk frankly with friends and loved ones about it ..

There is definatly a psychological concept with this. For me, while it was depressing, it was releaving bc I knew what was going on and how to treat it.
For my aunt though, it made her worse. She was diagnosed terminal. Her depression over the situation actually caused her to die sooner.
I also know of another person who was diagnosed terminal. They were actually given about 7 months to live. However, with the depression of knowing you are going to die, the body shuts down. She died after 2 weeks. Her condtion completly deterriated, but it was caused by her depression. She quit eating, quit taking in liquids, quit doing activites she liked and basically kept herself in a drugged sleep the whole time.
On the other hand, another person I know who was diagnosed terminal, it was the best thing you could have told him. He was estimated to having several months left. He died about a year later and spent the rest of his life from that day doing things he enjoyed and liked and spent time with his friends and family.
So, its not really the knowledge, rather the depression and helpless feelings that come along with it

I think it's good to know because then they can become their own advocate. They can use other sources like the internet for the latest treatments for their type of cancer etc.

No, cancer is not always mortal. If you know, you can fight against it. Never underestimate the power inside of you.
Even when the time is limited it's better to know.
My wife died from cancer. From the time we knew, it was 6 month. - time to prepare.

I don't think so. It is initially very overwhelming, but you gradually come to terms with it and found out what you need to do. Besides, I think I should know what is happening to me. There are issues I would (and did) need to take care of.
