Okay, so I'm on a site where either breeders or just people who cant keep their animals anymore sell them. Then i see a bernese mountain dog 'breeder' that says "puppies just in time for xmas, will look great under the tree&&be a good present for the whole family"

So i was wondering, since puppies for christmas are never reccommended, would a good breeder do this?

thanksinadvance<3

not really, but a good breeder talks to all potential buyers, for some person who has always wanted a dog, another family member may bring them to the breeder have them pick out a pup and then for the sake of tradition pick the pup up for Christmas. Many people don't seem to care about picking out a puppy and alot of breeders sell online even those who show, personally I would rather pick a pup from the litter and be there, but many people are ok with the breeder who knows the pups more to pick a pup to best suit them, personally I would love if someone got me a pup for christmas after I asked for one. Pups don't make good surprise gifts!

IMO, most breeders are far more concerned with how much money they're going to make than the wellfare of the puppies they sell. So as long as they make the sale at Christmas time they could care less if the pup is in a home where it's loved, wanted and well cared for. So no, an ethical breeder that cares about the puppies they breed, wouldn't do that.

No, absolutely no good breeder would ever advertise their puppies like this. Very few good breeders would even have a litter at this time of year, let alone send the pups home during the hectic period of time around the holidays. Even if a person WANTS the puppy, Christmas is about the worst possible time to bring a puppy home. You're asking the pup to adjust to MAJOR changes in the environment and schedule AND asking them to do so during a time that is insanely busy for humans. A new home is scary enough for a young puppy without asking it to deal with inconsistent schedules and lots of strange visitors in addition to adjusting to it's new life.

No good breeder that cares about their puppies would allow them to be sold before or on the day of Christmas. The day after is much less stressful. Even better, the week after. Plus, Bernese mountain dogs are active working dogs and not too good inside dogs.

No. A puppy for a 'christmas present' is the worst thing you could do. Unfortunately, people see an adorable puppy and think they MUST have one in time for Christmas. However, noone ever considers how much work they are. Time, money, and effort are all needed in large amounts to take care of a puppy the right way.

It is not right for people to advertise dogs for "Christmas", whether a BYB, Pet Store, or Breeder. It makes more dogs end up in the shelter.

It could be anything from a stupid breeder or just someone trying to make their dogs seem more appealing. Bernese Mountain Dogs don't have the best health in the world, average life aroun 7.2 years, so maybe they just want to hook people with how cute and sweet they are before a person does the research. Although I've meet BMD's before anf they are very nice laid back animals, if you don't mind being rounded up from time to time :-)

Absolutely not - no good breeder would ever sell their puppies as 'Xmas Presents'. Most good breeders actually tend to purposely not have litters due around the Xmas period to avoid this problem entirely.

Anyone who sells their puppies in this way should be avoided big time!!

It's a desperate plea to find homes. I have also been appalled at the number of pet ads in the Fresno paper. It usually averages 160-180, and lately there are 230+. People apparently think this is a good time to breed, which is so stupid. They should all be neutered.

I have three dogs and I never bought them as a Christmas present. They need a lot of attention, so Christmas time is not the time to purchase a puppy.

No. No good breeder would ever try to get people to buy their dogs as a Christmas gift. Run away from this person fast.
