because everyone has unusual things happen in their life, and just because something is unusual does not mean it is a result of divine intervention or it has any hidden meaning. And isn't that like saying that their life is more special than others.

I don't necessarily know if it is egocentric but it can definitely be lucrative, just ask Rick Warren.

I think what you're really asking is, if something extremely good happened to someone at an opportune moment, such as just barely avoiding a major accident or winning the lottery, that, surely, divine intervention must be involved, and, thus, that person has been given a Heavenly nod of approval, does that person have the right to brag about it or feel overly important?

If that's the case, the answer is, "no", because there are plenty of decent people to whom nothing of that sort ever happens, but it doesn't make them any less important in their deity's eyes. In most religions, selflessness and humility is the "way" (besides, do you know how silly the Pope would look if he strutted around all pleased to be His right-hand man?). ;)

I believe God has a purpose for everyone in life, but its hard to tell what events are from God and what are just caused by our own choices. I believe when there are no other explanations for why something happened that helped you in your life, that is what we call a miracle.

I'm a theist, but I know I get so tired of hearing people tell me "God has a very special purpose for you (then my name), because you're so unusual and special". Ok. Lay it on me.

Nothing happens by chance, good or bad, God's sovereign hand always plays a part in everything that happens to us in life.

That's why I never say that I was lucky, when something good happens to me, I always say that I'm blessed by the best, baby!
