I am with you! i am an atheist too, and I am soooooo tired of people telling me that I should not be celebrating Christmas. I always tell them that I love the tree, the lights and decorations, and the presents. I love the happy feelings that everyone have! I just don't think that Jesus was born, etc.
I do think that most people who are Christians forget the real meaning of the holiday, as they get too wrapped up in the materialistic side! I would hazard a guess and say that most Atheists don't have a problem with the holiday season!

There are two Christmases in America. There is the traditional secular Christmas with Santa Claus, the tree, the presents, Frosty and Rudolf. There is the Christian Christmas where Christians celebrate the birth of their Savior, Jesus Christ. We know he was most likely not born on Dec. 25th but that is the day we rejoice that He chose to make himself vulnerable as a human baby, in order to grow into a 33 year old man who gave His life to all. Christians have the joy of Christmas in their hearts 365 day a year. If Christmas were banned, we would still celebrate this event in our heart. America is slowly losing the traditional, secular holiday. It is offensive to other faiths and just the mere mention of it, embroils the atheistic community. It is sad for those of us who have grown up with the secular Christmas because it is a time of giving and forgiveness. The gift giving will go on because most American are materialistic but it will not be the Christmas that I grew up with. It is not PC for liberals in America. Banning it would change our country but Christians don't need the holiday to celebrate the Birth of Christ. Merry Christmas (whatever you celebrate) and Happy 2010

Define "ban".
Do you mean not allowing the gov't to place religious symbols on public property or do you mean not allowing ANYONE, ANYWHERE, to celebrate Christmas.
If you mean the first one, I would say that atheist would be the most likely to ban the religious aspects ONLY Jehovah Witness' would more likely want to ban ALL aspects of Christmas, since the Pagan aspects seems to be what they have issue with. Jewish persons probobly do not appreciate public schools celebrating the religious aspects of Christmas either.
Many tho' would not push for an outright ban, but would ask to have thier own children excused from religious activities sponsored by the public schools. Of course, even just asking to opt your kids out, can subject one to harassement & bullying by others, who consider it "anti-Christian" for Jews, JW's, atheist, and other non-Christians to not participate.
But I don't know of ANYONE, who want to ban private citizens, churches, etc. from celebrating Christmas.

I think all those folks who say that "real" Christians should never celebrate Christmas want to celebrat it, but they just don't want CHRISTIANS to celebrate it, for some reason. They think we stole Christmas, so they want to deny us.
There may be one or two atheists who really dislike Christians so much that they want to ban Christmas celebrations, but that's it.
Most people love Christmas.
Cool for you, singing the Messiah. I have a singing voice that only the Lord could love.

Perhaps they are a mixed group of unhappy people who do not understand or learn from history.
Historically, celebrations unite people and give them joy. Christmas was not started as a celebration for pagans or apostates, but rather a redemption of pagan celebration by the transforming power of the Church of Jesus Christ.
To create a day, in the darkest time of the year, when there could be rejoicing in Christs birth and an eager anticipation of His return.

I think if it were up to a majority vote - no one. Everyone loves Christmas. I even celebrate it in a secular way (even though I also celebrate Winter Solstice/Yule) because it's a tradition in our family to get together on Christmas to exchange gifts and feast.

Probably Jehovah's Witnesses. They are the ones who feel all holiday celebrations are effectively pagan. Certainly not we atheists: any excuse for a party, I always say! (Or did when I was young enough for it to matter.)

I think the Jehovah's Witnesses would ban it, they don't celebrate it or anyone's birthday either. My dad was an atheist and liked to give & receive presents.

I didn't think most atheists were in favor of an absolute ban on anything.
Christmas with family-awesome.
Christmas (solely) at a public school-not awesome.
Recognizing a variety of holidays, their histories, and beliefs in a public school-awesome.
