It is a heavier, not sweet wine. Good with red meat. If the person is not a wine drinker, they may still like it, but you might be better off with a merlot, as it is lighter and slightly sweeter (not so sour and less chance of the dry, oakie taste that some of the younger Cabernet's have). If you do decide on a Cab, the older the better. Cabs need to age. One that is less than 4 years old is really too young to taste real good. Some good cabs that I would recommend would be Silver Oak, Robert Mondavi, Ferrari Carrano. They all have a good Merlot too. Merlots can be younger, maybe a year or two old is old enough to be decent. Merlots tend to be less expensive too.

RE:
What does a cabernet sauvignon wine taste like?
I was just curious as I'm going to buy some for a friend of mine and I don't know if he would really enjoy it. Is it something that you have to be a wine lover for or does everybody pretty much like it?

It depends on their preferences.
No, not everyone likes cabernet sauvignon. It's certainly not one of my favorites.
I prefer cabernet-shiraz, or a nice merlot for red wines.
But I'm a HUGE fan of white wines. My favorite in that category is late harvest white riesling, though if I'm looking for something less sweet and more dry, I might go for a sauvignon blanc. Pinot noir is a good one too. I steer clear of chardonnay. Too dry.
Like I said, it's all a matter of preference. What does your friend prefer? And what's the wine supposed to go with? That should tell you.

Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most popular types of wine. To someone who isn't a wine enthusiast, it's like the red wine equivalent of the champagne (a sparkling wine). If your friend is a wine-hipster, he may find it too generic and mainstream. But as a wine-lover, he'll drink it because, well, it's wine! And of course because he'll appreciate the gesture.
There are tons of brands of Cabernet, though. For a quick reference on which ones are cheaper than the other, go here now.

A good Cab Sauv will be full bodied, dry, complex, have good tannins, good legs, and have a nice long finish.
It is one of my favorite wines. Bring on the Cab Sauv and Rib Eye or Prime Rib.

it's a nice dry & slightly robust wine, not as 'heavy or robust as the Merlots or hearty burdundy families'---perfect compliment for a nice roast, steak, pastas, etc.........however, if your friend likes sweet or 'carbonated' vino, then Lambrusco is for said person.

It is made of grapes and that is how it should taste. Wine to you, since you are new at it, must be complimented with cheese and crackers. Go to your local gourmet food store and ask them for the best cheese for the type of wine you have. They will help you. Enjoy and get used to it.
