I was plagued with self-esteem for years. Always thinking about how I felt about myself. Then one night while I smoking something and was alone I realized......"How self centered" Self esteem is all about me and how I feel about me not how other people feel about me only how I feel about me. ME ME ME.
It was futile and I realized if I wasn't thinking about me the world was damn good.....
So for people who have self esteem is yours good or not?
I feel pretty great about myself now that I don't think about myself in that respect.

Good for You!! Yes, self esteem is pretty self centered. The issue is that many people with esteem problems are not able to change their focus as easily as you have.
My self esteem varies from time to time. Usually it's pretty OK.

It sounds like you are talking about attention and self esteem.
Often attention does not correct low self esteem, but positive attention can create more self esteem if it is valid and real, but you wouldn't need it if you had high self esteem. So the more meaningful your life is then then less you need attention. Self esteem has to be internal and for me my self esteem came from doing things I like and what makes me feel good.

Oftentimes ppl with low self esteem compensate by being completely self-centered little jerks - sound like that is what you were doing. Hate to burst your bubble - but my self esteem has always been good, and it was, and is, never about being "self-centered". Self esteem is how YOU feel about yourself in relation to reality - they can look at themselves and see themselves for what they really are, good and bad. Ppl with good self esteem don't allow ppl to dump all over them, but neither do they dump all over others. They respect the needs of others as equal with their own needs. In short, it is all about balance. Sounds as though you bumped yourself out of self-centeredness. I can't tell if you have self esteem or not.

To be honest, for the most part I'm very neutral about me. I neither love nor dislike myself as a person. I really do not spend that much time thinking about me and the things that I want or need.
