Since I tend to be on the depressed side, a comedian is much better for me.
Therapists are OK. It takes awhile for therapy to help and comedy is instant relief. Also therapists are not a one size fits all situation. Sometimes takes trial and error to find one who is helpful to you.
With comedians, I can just quickly change to a different one. They cost less, work faster and offer easier choices to change from one I find not funny to one who makes me laugh.
Laughter is very good for both physical and emotional health.
First I'd try the comedian, probably several. If that isn't helpful, I'd consider the therapist.

I'd like to say comedians but of course it's therapists as they can personalize your therapy to help you the best.

Of course my therapist is a comedian as well - you should see how much she charges per hour :-)

Some therapists can help you. Others can make you feel worse.
Some can chill you out, and some can stir you up.
A comedian that makes you laugh is pushing some kind of button....

i think a combination of both comedians could help you get through the tough times while a therapist would help resolve the problems....(but i would make sure to pick comedian that wasn't too crude..)

For a Christian being waiting to fall lower back on the reality that God is familiar with what's terrific and each thing will artwork out for the terrific interior the tip, makes stress issues lots less complicated to handle.

Laughter is the best medicine. Dave Chappel (sp?)...he can make me feel better when I'm down. So can Chevy Chase and Richard Pryor.

Long run: therapists.

for the moment, perhaps a comedian, but that is too fleeting, and some of them are kinda sick themselves.
