What are some things you wish you had known about majoring in psychology before actually doing it? (if you already have)

Not only are you not going to make much money, but they are going to make you work hard to find out no one wants to hire you. There are more jobs as a licensed social worker, although you still will not make as much money or have as much freedom as a psychologist - you may have to take referrals from physicians.
The one area of psychology that seems to be doing well is Industrial/Organizational Psychology and some clinical psychologists working in the industrial area hiring and terminating employees and developing assessments and training.
To become a psychologist in most states you have to go to graduate school and get a Ph. D. You have to pass a doctoral exam and do original research as your doctoral thesis. There are places where you can get a Psy. D. degree as a second career where the requirements may not be as great.
It is possible to get a job later working for your state or federal government working at mental health institutions and children's health institutions or institutions for the developmentally disabled. These jobs can be fairly well paid, but tend toward the bureaucratic (lots of paperwork).
Private practice has a lot of paperwork also. Many aspects of practice eventually are driven by insurance companies unless you can find fairly wealthy people to pay out of their own pockets. Mental health is often seen as a luxury by society and despite the talk by many of its importance, It looks like talk. Its like the weather, everyone talks about it, but nobody does anything about it.

Have a goal in mind. Like what do you want to do after graduating. In college you should make it your priority to figure out what it is you wish to do when you graduate. Having a psychology background can begin you in many careers, but you will probably need to go back to school for a masters in Psychology or something else to get a good job. I think that everyone should take some psychology courses, but I don't think that everyone should be a psychology major. I think that a lot of psych majors have personal issues that they wish to work out and so they study psych in hopes of figuring themselves out. If this is true, you are better off going to your college's counseling office and getting therapy and pursuing something that will hold your interest in the future.

Most people who major in psychology and/or sociology do not make as much money as they usually think they will.
These are interesting and can be rewarding professions. They are not usually jobs that pay very well considering the money put into the education.
A bachelors in psychology will not get you very far. It usually takes a masters and often a doctorate to be able to get a good job that pays much.

That you are not going to make much money. That you are most likely going to have to go for a PHD to make money and that PHD programs are some of the most competitve (1 program I applied for received over 400 applications and only accepted 3 people)

Business will be easier. Sounds like it would suit you better as well. Not to be a downer or anything, but you're thinking waaay too far ahead. Just declare a major for now. Work really hard in undergrad. Worry about what to do after you've gotten a degree. Realistically, what you want to be and what you will become are probably not the same. Just do your best to get good grades right now. That's all that matters and it will help you most in the long run.

Job opportunities are not great unless you plan to go continue graduate schooling.
