I went to a chili Cook Off. To my shock, any of the entries for the "Best Chili" entry had to be without beans! Beans are the only thing actually GOOD for you in chili! Why would I want chili without beans?

And I noticed most of the people there did a pretty fair imitation of the Goodyear Blimp. Gee, go figure, lousy eating habits = morbid obesity.

Coolio

You know that your name in Spanish means "Rectum?" right? Culo? And it is pronounced exactly the same way as you spell your name?

This is a matter of tradition. According to cowboy lore beans were never put in Chili. Beans were a separate dish. However my blue ribbon Texas chili not only has beans but two types of bean. Dark red and light red kidney beans to be exact. I also chop up my cheese and throw it in just before I turn the fire off. Hope this helps.

I agree i like the beans too but if i'm having hotdog on a bun w/chili leave off the beans, but add some real good slaw--then you have what is called a chili slaw dog & its just great.I have eaten them at the Varsity in Atlanta & they are addictive.

Chili packaged with neither beans nor meat allows the cook to add their own preferences at preperation time. It harks back to a time when prepared ingredients were stored separately to allow for a wider variety of end products.

I think it's mostly a regionality thing. Supposedly "real" chili has no beans. But I wouldn't eat it. Bring on the chili with beans!

If you put beans in the chili in Texas, they will put your butt in jail. Against state laws of chili cooking.

I like beans in mine so when I visit Texas I make sure I reach for the beans usually on the side.

Well if you think about it - and given the girths of the people at the chili-cookoff - beans would create a lot of flatulence, which could potentially impact global warming.

I think it's a very wise decision to ban beans at such events.

Well, if it is a big TV SHOW, then chili with no beans is preferable, because beans cause gas, and that would be SOOO Embarrassing!
