Guru nanak dev was a Hindu who had a large number of followers. Guru Nanak's main teachings were gist of upanishadas, translated into common men's language.
Japuji Sahib is pure vedanta written in Punjabi language
Sikhism was never started as a separate religion. till 9th guru, they were all hindus. 10 th guru Gobind singh started the Khalsa Panthh ... it was more a sort of army of hindus to fight the moguls.
Sikhism is a branch sect of hinduism, and Guru Granthh sahib has mainly the teachings of hinduism and teachings of Sufis (not islam), in common language.
Guru Nanak asked people not to worship idols and refute caste system, the then prevailing social evils.
there was nothing new in this as core philosophy of hinduism never goes for idol worship... it allows making idols but does not ask us to take idols as gods.
Caste system was never a part of hindu philosophy, and taking caste by birth was never accepted by hinduism too. shri Ram, by eating fruits from untouchable Shabri proved that there is no untouchable, shri Krishna in Geeta told clearly that all caste are equally eligible for Moksha
Arya Samaj of hinduism also do not believe in idols... but they do not call them a separate religion.
Hinduism is not merely idols, castes, temples and rituals... that is just 1% of hinduism.... real hinduism is the deep philosophy of Upanishadas, and guru Nanak worked on that core philosophy, rejecting the vising social evils in the name of hinduism.
It is only after the Khalistani movement, on the poking of pakistan, that sikhs started calling themselves a separate religion on political grounds
Sikhism was like an army of hindus to fight muslim invaders, as 10th Guru gobind singh clearly declared.. Khalasa Panthh's main job would be to save hindus, brahmins and cows and guard the country against invaders.

I would say so although I cannot tell you what he denied as Hinduism (sanatana dharma) is so vast. It is fact that he took parts of Hinduism and parts of Islam so by that very statement he must have felt some parts of sanatana dharma were false, otherwise Sikhism would be Hinduism with Islamic beliefs added to it. I looked it up on the internet, and your question is posted at a site dedicated to teaching Sanatana Dharma, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/drmoraleslist/
so maybe you'll get a more complete (or correct) answer.

>Guru sri.Nanak Dev ji started a new religion Sikh Religion. Only from the Sanskrit wor rd Sishya(taught)-Sikshit-Guru(=Teacher)--Siksha(lessons) the word Sikh comes.
>sri.Nanak Dev ji wanted to bring reforms in Hindu religion, because there was much of "Ritualism" and "Idol worship" in Hindu religion.A True Brahma Gjnaani is NOT supposed to do "Rituals' and "Idol Worship"-In the sri.Granth Sahib the Doctrine of "Brahmam" and "Brahma Gjnaanam" are accepted.Atleast 50 to 60 times the syllable Brahmam comes in sri.Garnth Sahib. It is why sri.Nank Devji was teaching against riuals and Idol worship.
>Muslims ,from the day Sikh religion was initiated, they were NOT Friendly with that Religion. The way they treated Guru sri.Tej Bahadur and Guru sri.Gobinda Singh are HISTORY.
> All the 10 Guru names are only Hindu names-sarva sri.Guru Naanak Dev,Guru Ravi Das,Guru Ram Das,Guru Tej bahadur,Guru Gobind Singh etc. There is NOT even one Muslim name among the Gurus
>There is caste system in Sikh Religion also, because it is a Social Order and NOT Religious. There are Kshtriya Sikhs(Maha Raja of Patiala)-Upper caste Hindu Sikhs(Khatri)-Vaisya (Bania/Baabha) Sikhs--Farmers' Sikhs -Jaat Sikhs(sri.Kushvant Singh)-Harijan Sikhs(sri.Buta singh)--They do not MARRY among different castes in arranged marriages.A Kshatriya Sikh will marry a Kshatriya Hindu ,but not other caste Sikh in parents' arranged marriages. So CASTE was responsible for starting Sikh Religion is a Mis/Dis/False information.
Quote"so according to guru nanak were some parts of sanatana dharma false" enquote- ---is a wrong information. He wanted certain "Reforms" as enumerated above. Since Sikhs have No "Fire Ritual", they go round sri.Guru Granth Sahib for "Saptha Padhi",because they have also aceepted Hindu Marriage Code (for Legal purposes) and they will have "Only One Living Wife" as Hindus do and NOT Muslim Marriage code (Shariat) and Sikhs do not follow "Poly gamy".
> Sikhs consult Hindu calendar(Panchaangam) for their religious functions and consult A HindU Brahmin only for Astrology( I have seen in Delhi)---not a Mulim calendar nor a muslim Moulvi.Sikhs celeberate Dasara and worship Devi Durga and Lord Siva.In fact they have calendars printed with Lord Siva with Beard and Hair lock like Sikhs.
P.S.:-"Sikhsha"(lessons) is missing in the main Post

Yes. He taught that all humans, regardless of caste or even sex, are equal. Many followers of the sanatana dharma would kill (and have killed) to keep the caste system enforced. He also preached to all people, not just Hindus, which was a revolutionary break with Hindu and Muslim traditions. He taught "Vaṇḍ Chakkō", sharing with others, but in sanatana dharma, it is a sin to help someone of a lower class; you would be interfering with them getting their karmic payback for something they did in a past life, but could not remember.

Hinduism isn't a faith yet a existence-type. It has many faiths which branch out from it – Sikhism, Budhism, Jainism. for his or her id they decline to be somewhat of Hinduism.

The Deity of the Lord is nondifferent than God Himself, if made by a Deity walla and Installed according to Scripture (Shasrta). The name Form quality and pass times of the Lord are nondifferent than God Himself. Sorry I don't know about Guru Nanak but if he says negative things about Deity worship, then He is not a bonafide guru. We can check Truth or who is bonafide Guru by confirming with Guru (other bonafide gurus teachings) sadu (pure devotees of the lord) and shastra (the scripture) One should worship the Deity, once they understand that God is everywhere they can see that He is also and especially in the Deity form. Krishna appears to accept ones worship and devotion through the Deity form. Yes, God can be worshiped anywhere, but we can not imagine the Eternal Transcendental Form of the Supreme Lord. So the Deity is important to establish His Form within our heart. No need to worhsip a golden Calf. Though devotees of Lord Krishna worship the cow as our mother, being she gives us milk and sustenance and so many things can be made from her pure milk and offered to the Lord. That does not mean we worship the Cow as God as many unscrupulous men misconstrue. I love my dear Deities of Radha and Krishna. Even Lord Chaitanya (Krishna Himself) who appeared 500 years ago to show how to love God) worshiped the Deity in the Temple. We are to follow in His footsteps. WE are to offer all kinds of beautiful and tasteful arrangements to the Deity form of the Lord such as Vegetarian food stuffs, beautiful cloths, jewelry, flowers, garlands, etc. Though God does not need anything, being He is the owner of everything, He accepts the love and devotion offered to Him through the beautiful arrangements offered to Him. Like a small child makes something for the father, everything that the child offerd to the father was made from items from the fathers house. But the father is so pleased and happy to recieve the offering the child made him in love. This is Bhakti. (offering to the Lord with love and devotion, which includes to His Deity form) Bhagavad Gita as it is by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada confirms this. Hope this answers your question.

Sikhs do not disagree with science, as it does not conflict with Sikh Scriptures or beliefs. In fact scientists are just now discovering the concepts that were written in Sikh scriptures centuries ago. Sikh Gurus told Sikhs not to smoke, do drugs or drink alcohol centuries ago. Scientists confirm that drinking alcohol, smoking and consuming drugs have harmful effects on the body.
Sikhism beliefs have not been disproven by science. Scientific facts support the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib. Guru Granth Sahib states that, “There are planets, solar systems and galaxies. If one speaks of them, there is no limit, no end. There are worlds upon worlds of His Creation. As He commands, so they exist. He watches over all, and contemplating the creation, He rejoices. Nanak says, to describe this is as hard as steel!” (Guru Granth Sahib, 8). Furthermore, it is stated that God created the whole universe including the earth. “You Yourself created the earth, and the two lamps of the sun and the moon” (Guru Granth Sahib, 83). And, “Many millions are the moons, suns and stars” (Guru Granth Sahib, 275).
Scientists have found that there are billions of galaxies, each galaxy containing billions of starts and millions of planets revolving around those stars with millions of moons revolving around those planets. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, has approximately 200 billions stars and millions of planets from which few are known. There are billions of galaxies like ours in the universe and this is just now being realized by modern science, where as Sikh Scripture mentioned it long before its discovery.
Scientists are slowly attempting to unravel the creation of God but the whole creation is beyond what humans can explore. Our Universe is so vast that it takes millions of years to travel to stars and planets beyond our solar system. For example, a star name 51 Pegasi in Pegasus constellation has three planets revolving around it (known so far). 51 Pegasi is 50 light years away from the Earth. A light year is a distance traveled by light in one year at the speed of 180,000 miles/sec. 51 Pegasi is approximately 300 trillion miles from the Earth. Light takes 50 years to reach the Earth from 51 Pegasi. Today’s fastest probe will take about half a million years to reach there. However 51 Pegasi is considered very close in relation to other stars. There are stars in our galaxy that are thousands of light years away from the Earth. In addition, the nearest galaxy, Andromeda is 2 million light years away. Traveling at 180,000 miles/sec lights will take two million years to reach Andromeda. If it takes half a million year to cover the distance of 50 light years with modern technology, one should imaging how long will it take to cover the distance of 2 million light years. Andromeda is the just the nearest galaxy, there are galaxies billions of billions light years away from ours.
Scientists study the creation of God and try to comprehend the mysteries of His creation. The more they learn, the more they are amazed. Some spend their entire life studying God’s creation and yet they are unable to find His limits. However, when one meditates on God, God Himself unfolds the mysteries and shows the galaxies, the stars, the deep ocean world and all of his creation.
