What would you let a 4 year old watch on TV. Some people say Disney Channel, but I think that the shows are for older kids. I need some advice on this topic. Also my daughter will be 5 the end of January.

I do know about Nick Jr and other channels like that, as I also have an 18 month old daughter.

I agree about the Disney channel.. meant for an older audience. I agree that PBS shows like Sesame Street are great. Nick Jr. is also good. Children that age should be limited in their television time anyway, so only watching it during the morning when these types of programs are on is a great idea. Other than that.. there are movies.

PBS Kids (or Sprout) is consistenly good quality educational programs and is commercial free.
Disney Channel programs are often geared for slightly older children, but are fairly innocent. My 4 year old LOVES Hannah Montana. Think of it as sweets. Okay in moderation.
There is also Playhouse Disney for the Preschool set which is fine.
Watch closely shows on Nick. Nick Jr. during the day is okay, but Nick/Teen Nick can be very edgy. Noggin is fine.
And most everything on Cartoon Network is a no-no - yet my kids love Scooby Doo and Tom and Jerry - and little bit is just fine.

We actually keep to movies and DVR the shows that we like and approve of. That way, we can watch them any time. Disney Channel is OK for little ones earlier in the day. They switch over when the big kids come home from school. Noggin is good. Sesame Street has gone down hill since I used to watch it back in the day.

my daughter will be four in a few weeks. i usually let her watch disney channel and she seems to understand most of what's going on. sprout (channel ) is awesome, it's something i've recently discovered. usually, i don't let her watch nick jr or cartoon network because none of the shows on there seem to have any educational value whatsoever. we have some dora movies she loves and some wiggles movies, too.

I despise Nickelodeon as their shows often portray smart-aleck characters I don't want my kids to emulate.
Pretty much anything on PBS is okay. I am not a fan of the sarcasm on most Disney shows either.
I think as issue just as important as the quality of the programming is the quantity. Too much TV is not good for developing brains!!!! See links below.

I know it's hard to find shows that are strictly for young children. If you have cable or dish then I suggest Noggin. It is an awesome channel for young children. Besides being entertaining it is also educational. My 3 yr old loves it. Very appropriate. i also agree that PBS is great for kids!

pbs, public access only shows educational tv. I loved it when my daughter was around that age, and she loved it as well.
