ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) A Roswell police officer was removed from school campuses after turning a pregnant 18-year-old student over to immigration authorities.

Police Chief John Balderston defended the action by Officer Charlie Corn, a 10-year veteran who was working at Roswell High School as a student resource officer.

But he said Roswell Independent School District Superintendent Michael Gottlieb asked for Corn's removal "because he didn't want the officer checking on the immigration status of the students."

Last week, the district and police department made a joint decision to remove all school resource officers, the Roswell Daily Record reported.

Gottlieb had no comment Thursday.

The incident began after senior Karina Acosta was cited Nov. 29 for a parking violation and driving without a license. Balderston said she was given several days to produce a license, and when she did not, Corn pulled her from class Dec. 5.

While trying to confirm her identity, Corn learned she was an illegal immigrant, Balderston said. Corn detained her at the school before notifying federal immigration agents, the chief said.http://www.lcsun-news.com/latest/ci_7713755

Absolutely the right call. One of my greatest points in this illegal situation is that having gotten away with breaking one law they simply do as they choose regarding all of our laws. I say get this girl out of here before she has that child. They are simply a burden to society!

Yes, and he should get a promotion. One less illegal alien invader and one less anchor baby. Hooray! All US policeman should be trained under section 287 g by ICE in order to arrest and get rid of illegal aliens.

To be fair, I can see that it would be quite frightening to be a pregnant teenager deported to an unfamiliar country. But I wonder if her parents, while protesting how "unfair" this is, realize that it is THEIR actions that put their daughter in this predicament.

There would not be a problem if she had been pulled from class for dealing drugs, for credit card theft, for bank robbery - I fail to see why this federal offense should be treated any differently.

And like that kid in "Bonfire of the Vanities", she's somehow gone from a knocked up illegal alien to a good student who is on track to graduate right after the baby is born.

Yes he made the right call.....that's his job to stop people from breaking the law.
So she's here illegally and driving without a license. She's here apparently to make a better life for herself and she's breaking the law. Get her *** out of here!

He made exactly the right call. He is a sworn officer. That means he has sworn to enforce the laws. The School District Superintendent should be charged with aiding abetting as well as interfering with a police officer in the performance of his duties.

Driving without a license? Illegal immigrant? Absolutely he made the right call. It is up to ICE to determine if she can stay here or not, until the day we have open borders.

She broke the law, several times in fact. Even if she was a legal immigrant, she should be deported for breaking the law.
