I just keep them in a dark cupboard and they last for ages.

Some of the better supermarkets have garlic strings - just like the onion ropes, all plaited together. These can just be hung up on a hook in a cool place and will then last for months. Just cut a bulb off when needed.

I do two ways.

1) put garlic in small processor, when done. mix in some oil, store in jar and put in fridge. This is good if you cook a lot with garlic as it is ready for you to use so you don't need to go through the arduous task of peeling and chopping every time you need to cook.
Don't use a wet spoon or one that has been used for something else to scoop garlic out of jar. Always a clean dry spoon otherwise mould will develop on top of garlic.

2) Chop in processor and put in ice cube trays to freeze. When frozen remove from tray and put your perfectly portioned garlic cubes in a sealable bag and leave in freezer for next use.

I keep my garlic in a terracotta garlic pot and if I have too many bulbs to fit into the pot I hang the rest in a cotton string bag somewhere cool, dark and airy.

I keep mine cool and dry, ususally in a net hanging up. If I get a cheap deal on it, I store it peeled and under oil and just use the oil for a week or two but in general, like most food it's better fresh.

I freeze mine, it doesn't dry, and the garlic is still fresh. Restaurants do it too.

If you store it in a dark, dry room, put it in a brown paper bag.

I do as I was told by my gran in Spain: separate the cloves, peel them leaving the root and store in a small hermetic plastic container (tupperware type) in the veg drawer in the fridge. They keep ages and when I need them all I have to do is trim off the root bit.

you would keep them in the fridge and they will last quite a long time. Otherwise you can pickle them in vinegar or chop them up in a blender and store the ground garlic in a tupperware box in the freezer, then you use it from frozen.
Otherwise if your near a good Asian shop, you would buy it fresh every day!
