Eggnog has a pretty strong taste so it would be a waste to use good rum. Just use the cheap stuff. Mid-range if you have heavy drinking friends because cheap liquor can be brutal the next morning.

this is what I was told
use a liquor YOU like...
since your mixing it in some very sweet base best to use 151% because it is so diluted..
But I thought several liquors were used,,
especially Brandy, Rum and Burbon...
