Since the 60's society has been bent on rebelling against authority. Then we have the phenomenon of pointing the finger at someone else when we do something wrong or just out right not taking responsibility for our own actions. I don't know how many times I've seen people fume because they got a ticket for speeding and they were speeding. Even in a classroom full of small children you will see one think it's okay to do something wrong because everyone else is doing it and then become indignant because they were disciplined for breaking the rules. Parents running to the schools trying to bail out little Billy because they too are instilling in them the idea that authority is bad, they are stupid and you don't have to listen to them.
In addition, the media paints law enforcement in a terrible light. If people actually knew how many law enforcement officers there are in this country and how few negative incidents occur in a day, month or year then they would change their tune.
And I'm sure when there is trouble they can't wait for law enforcement to arrive.
Then you have Hollywood making movie after movie and series after series of bad cops, stupid teachers, dumb dads and so on. It has become engrained in our psychi...Anyone that thinks music or media doesn't have an affect on the way we think is a moron. Why do manufacturers spend millions on advertising jingles, plugs in movies, and commercials or ads in magazines if they didn't improve sells??? What we allow in influences are thoughts and beliefs especially if we start young and allow it for years.
We have brainwashed generations of kids to hate and rebel against authority and that's why law enforcement is treated so badly by the public at times.

I believe the police. whether there are some officers that supply all of them a bad call, they are the exception no longer the guideline. under 10% of the officers are undesirable ones, regrettably the only time you pay attention approximately an officer is while it is a bad one. the comparable minority of police officers get many of the clicking giving the impact that officers are corrupt. we would desire to start up trusting the police officers extra effective than we do, and reporting the officers which at the instant are not good or take care of us incorrect, it is the only thank you to do away with them. we ought to continually particularly supply the police the income of "harmless till PROOVEN responsible".

I think that in most communities where police officers are distrusted, the police are generally less professional and more abusive of their power, like New Orleans. If abuse of police authority is not punished and criticized HARSHLY we will end up like mexico where the police shake innocent people down. I have family members in the police force and they hate the dishonest ones as much as the people you seem to be complaining about.

Great answers on some so far. I think the media presents officers so badly that ads to the problem of people hating the police. Yes there are bad officers, but compared to the overall number they are the minority. If one officer does something bad out of a department the size of 5000 you only hear about the bad guy.

Crystal B, what a short and sensible answer you have given.
I have never had a fear of the Police, perhaps because I behaved myself as a youth. Those odd one or two who may have had an unfortunate experience with the Law will still remember it and amplify in this medium.
As I have remarked in another place, the alternative to Policing in the Country is impossible to imagine, or is it?

Police are human like me. All of them have either commit crimes or at least done immoral things. How do you arrest someone for something that you have done? Also, I never gave authority over me to any of these individuals. I am a decent person and I just want to be left alone.

I don't hate police officers but trust is earned. We lack proper checks and balances between Law Enforcement and the general public. Take Drew Peterson of the Bolingbrook Police Department for example not to mention the Bolingbrook Police Department itself which is likely corrupt.

A lot of people resent authority. There are many others that have been busted before, or have family members or friends that have spent some time behind bars and hold a grudge against the police. Then there are those who think that law enforcement wants take all their freedoms away. Or of course, the people that think because you wear a badge, you must be corrupt and dishonest. I still believe that cop haters are the minority though.

I support the ones who do their jobs and respect the members of the community they serve, which is the majority. The crooks and bullies don't get my support.

Your perspective of our men and women in blue has a lot to do with any encounters you may have had with them. After all, they are what stands between sanity and complete chaos.
You need to ask yourself- is the problem what they think about me or is it what I think about them? If you answer this honestly I think your perspective of them will be clearer.
