I have always heard it said that if a person does the work which is his heart's desire it will never feel like work. Although related to faith, you will still be doing WORK for the Lord. Having a hands on experience with the poor and under-served in God's world will give you a type of study that books and priests in Rome are more detached from. Study is good, but I've never read in the Bible that we are asked to study good deeds. We are asked to DO good deeds. I hope this helps you make a decision that will make you happy with and proud of yourself?

I pray that you will jump on this chance. You will be able to inspire more people to join you in charitable works using everything you will learn in Rome. The pastor of my Church studied in Rome, and he inspires me every day with his extensive knowledge of Scripture and Catholicism.

Knowlege is good in and of itself, but it can lead to intellectual snobbery. You are already better educated than most. But charity in practice is the greatest. Put your faith into action. Mother Theresa, a true Catholic and believer in the trintiy to the end, is a good model to follow. Even agnostics want to claim her as their own.

If you really study the scriptures you will no longer want to be a Catholic priest at all.

And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.

MYSTERIES and KNOWLEDGE refers not just to intellectual knowledge, buut theological knowledge too.
John Paul II asked: "Where did Mother Teresa find the strength and perseverance to place herself completely at the service of others? She found it in prayer and in the silent contemplation of Jesus Christ, his Holy Face, his Sacred Heart."

the most important thing is that you have the TRUE GOSPEL.
in REVELATIONS 22:18 GOD teaches us that the DIVINE
REVELATION is complete.
any religion that claims there is more REVELATION than the BIBLE is not the TRUE GOSPEL.
if you go down that wrong path ,you can never be of any eternal help to mankind.

Keep in mind that in the end Mother Theresa was agnostic. That should give you an idea about your god.

Since you are a god-believer, I would advise you to ask your god. Surely he will answer you with the correct answer.
