I have recently starting having migranes and I had my eyes checked, their fine. So my mom suggested going to a Chiropractor. I went and it turns out the upper part of my spine is curved to the right a little and my neck is completely straight, causing my migranes. The chiropractor said I should come and get "adjusted" 3 times per week to fix this. I thought this was crazy considering I thought I was fine so I got a 2nd opinion from another chiropractor, he said that I should just stretch and move my neck more while I'm at work and it will get better over time, he didn't take x-rays or anything and told me not to worry about it. Now, I have 2 chiropractors saying 2 completely different things, what should I do? My insurance doesn't cover it and it's $35 each time I go. I just want to find out what's wrong and get it fixed without getting ripped off. Have any of you ever had to go to a Chiropractor, did they help? Please help....thanks...

I've been to a chiropractor for neck/headaches. It definitely helped me. The fact that you got two different answers is a little fishy, however. I don't really know what to say about that.

Go with the one that took the X-Rays. I go to the Chiropractor regularly and have had amazing results. Yes they do help and going 2-3 times a week in the beginning of treatment is normal. After a couple of weeks you will drop to once a week for a couple more weeks then a couple times a years for regular adjustments. You'll be suprised how much diffrence a good chiropractor can make.

Hi,

I sympathize about the migraines. Yes, they suck. I have never heard of any legitimate, peer-reviewed scientific studies that say that migraines have anything whatsoever to do with curvature of the spine. I have, however, heard of chiropractors who blame curvature of the spine on everything from obesity to depression, bad eyesight, flat feet and poor sexual performance. Interestingly, these same chiropractors have the solution to all of these problems, which is for them to straighten your spine --- and keep straightening it, multiple times a week, for months and years, as long as you keep paying them.

So much for chiropractors. I suggest that you go to a medical doctor instead. They can at least give you medicine to control or prevent the pain. I also suggest relaxation therapy and mild exercise -- something like yoga or tai chi can do both of those, and even meditation or pain management therapy can help. And learn as much about migraines as you can (see link below). That way you won't get ripped off by anybody offering bogus cures.

ive gone to a chiropractor before. they are a bit pricy.
try signing up for a different medical care plan. if that still does not cover it only go once ever other week or so.
try buying a heating pad for your back or buying a brace.
if those still dont seem to help at all contact your chiropractor and tell them YOU WANT RESULTS. if you dont use a little force they will skip you & move along to someone else who is in more pain or so it seems. with me they told me to wait 1 month then come back for x-rays again. i told them straight out how i dont have time to waste & i want results NOW not later. so they offered an MRI. sometimes u have to be a little mean to get what u want from them. just dont do anything big for a while...such as lifting boxes or helping someone move. try to sleep with alot of pillows so it comforts your back & neck area.

Go to one more chiropractor and see what they say if they say something that one of the others said go with that one. IF you go with the 35 dollar chiropractor make sure you have a contract or something so that if the session doesn't work out you can sue him/her and get your money back as for the migraine see if the judge can recommend any one of make the chiropractor recommend some one or do something again with no charge. You can pay the lawyer with the money you get back from the chiropractor. You might even have money left over.

You need to see a medical doctor to be sure the problem really is migraines and if so, evaluate the cause. Migraines can be caused by hormone levels, certain foods and all sorts of things. There are also very effective treatments on the market that can lessen the frequency and shorten the duration of migraines, but most of them are prescription drugs. Severe headaches can be the symptom of serious medical issues so start with a doctor.

Maybe you should try going to your Doctor.. tell the doctor what the two chiropractors said and get another opinion that way, (since you know the doctor isn't after your chiropractic money...) While you're there, she/he may also be able to help you trouble shoot some other possible problems and give you a perscription for pain for when you do get migranes.

I've had a chiropractor tell me 3x per week several different times, but my family doctor told me that when she was doing her residency, her class talked to a chiropractor and asked them this question and he said that anything that isn't taken care of in 3 treatments (total) will not be fixed by chiropractic care. Don't know who is right exactly, but I quit going to Chiropractor after she told me that and I've been fine.

The most common cause of migraine head aches are food allergies. Another theory thinks that they are caused by uncontrolled vasodilation of the arteries to the brain. I'm not sure if anyone really knows the cause. Since your migraines seem to have started rather acutely, it could possibly be psychologically motivated.

It would be best if you skipped the chiropractors and go to your family physician.

see a doctor -- See A Doctor -- SEE A DOCTOR!

My experience with chiropractors is that theirs is temporary relief at best, and insurance ought to cover an MD. On the other hand, my experience with migraine med is that it's worse than the headache! But Your headaches might mean something else is wrong with Your brain. Only Your doctor can judge that.

The herb feverfew, taken regularly, has relieved me of most of my headaches.
