Just curious to hear what you all think
I know there are some religious candidates... would you vote for a religious person? Why or why not?

I'm really hoping for Mitt Romney. He has a proven track record of financial responsibility. Look at what he did for Massachusetts without raising taxes.

I dont care if they are religious or not, I just care about what they say and what they stand for (in a political way) being religious can be a negative if they are going to follow their religion so much that it can screw up a country or start a war. None of the front runners really stand out to me as a good candidate.

Obama. He has the guts to go against the political machines like the Clintons. He is what we need now.

Not Ron Paul. He is extremist anti-abortion, voted for a constitutional flag burning amendment, (yet he says he is for keeping the constitution as it is) against gay marriage, voted for keeping God in the Pledge of Allegiance (which isn't really a government document at all). You don't see him touted as a religious candidate but he is probably more than some of the open ones. Other than the war votes he is further right than Bush.

They are all "religious" in the sense that they belong to a Christian denomination or sect. If any of them are closet atheists or agnostics they will never come out. They would be unelectable in the U.S.A., this country being the most religious in all of Christendom. You can also name the following as completely unelectable in the U.S.: Muslims, Buddhists, Wiccans, Hindus, Hare Krishnas, and most probably anyone who is a Jehovah's Witness (even though JW's claim to be Christian).
You could add more unelectables to this list, but you get the point.

Anyone not a fundi nutjob like the Shrub.

I actually think the "most likely to a good President" candidate is Barak Obama but I think Hilary will win because people seem to really like her.

I'm not American so I can't vote (YET) but my husband is and can. He says he doesn't know who would be the best candidate because "none of them are making a real impression" and hasn't decided yet. He also tells me that he'd never vote for anyone that used their religion in their platform because they'd just damage the country.

I think that this time the country needs a Democrat as President so they can try to undo all the horrific damage that the Shrub has done to the country. The Republicans won't actually try to fix the damage because most of them are convinced that the Shrub has done good things when he hasn't.

Personally, I feel the same as my husband.

The religious aren't interested in whats best for everyone in the country, they're only interested in what their religion wants.

well, after 7 years of Bu$hCo i'm a political cynic so none of the candidates of either party can please me. i know where most of their campaign money is coming from and who will have their ear when they're sitting in the Oval Office.

however, Barrak Obama has received more of his campaign donations from individual Americans and grassroots organizations than any of the other candidates so maybe i'll vote for him. the mega corporation and the greedy plutocrats now have ownership of our government. it's a very dangerous thing when all government policies are designed to benefit the mega business and the mega wealthy at the expense and enslavement of the working American. it's called fascism.

Was thinking about Mitt Romney a while back. I really don't know now. Maybe Hillary Clinton. She smart and strong-willed, which is a good thing. Oprah campaigning for Obama has really made me inclined to be less likely to vote for him,

Well, I am a democrat so I MUST vote for one of the democrat runners. I would say the other person ((Who's name escapes me)), NOT Hilary. They both have the same ideas, but, as reverses sexist I may sound, I don't think this country is quite ready for a woman president, especially one with absoultely NO PERSONALITY!
Having the first black preisdent would be so cool, though... :]

I dont really follow it,when flipping through the channels I might hear one or two things; but other than that,I think it would be cool to have a first black president or a first woman president.

It depends on their stances on various issues. Religion is a non-factor. Personally, I would like to see Gravel voted in.

Having no say in the matter, I can only hope that the winner will adopt a less aggressive stance on the world stage and stop relying on military force to win the arguments.
