Compared to the outside world,(when dealing with the outside world), do you notice they are not as bright or imaginative as the "Regulars" on this R/S site?
I may be a prude, but I just got to say this or post this, (or I will bust trying to hold it back).

Unc, in here I find a reflection of the real world around me. There are going to be sanctimonious idiots in REAL life and there are going to be those HERE as well. There are going to be people in real life that you find that you simply can't imagine your life without and the same goes for in here as well. It is that very WIDE variety of viewpoints and ideas that attracts me to this place. I find myself totally fascinated by ALL the answers and questions and tend to read them all. Even the silly ones and the disrespectful ones. they give me insight as to how those folks think in the anonymity of a formu like this. I have found that most are GOOD and loving and honest. Yes, there are some that scare the hell out of me for the views that they take but, even from them, I find that I can find things to learn.
Unc, Thank you for the kind words. I wish you AL the best on your search for enlightenment, not just for this "Christmas season but througout the year. I have found YOU to be a truly intelligent person (even if sometimes acting a bit foolish at times, which is OK too. We can't be serious 100% of the time, either) and I eagerly look forward to your qwuestions and answers. You have a lot of good information to teach others and a lot of good jokes too. YOu have a wonderful sense of humor and a quick mind that picks up on the nuances of what people are saying and are not afraid to speak what's on your mind. THAT is the mark of a truly intelligent person. I'm PROUD to know you and count you among my friends.
Now, sober up and stop crying into your drink. Get some sleep and things will be better when you wake up. LOL
Brightest Blessings,
Raji the Green Witch

Thank-you Uncle for the nice things you said about us. All true of course! Ah, did I say that? tee hee
To answer your question. I don't ever think who's smarter or more intelligent. I like people for various reasons like you said, some are witty, some are compassionate, some come up with the perfect answers and some you just like alot and you don't know why. I feel closer to many of the regulars on here than some members of my distant family!
You shame me because I don't go on anyone's 360 pages or even do my own. I guess I should. I'm just a shy person.

My observation is actually the opposite. Almost everything on here is opinion dressed as fact with no real logic, explanation, or justification given for any statement (besides the occasional link to wikipedia... how intelligent). That being said, I work with some pretty bright people who will call you on bs... so I guess I have a unique situation.

I have met some wonderful people on here, and I think my contacts & friends are very bright and imaginative. I know a lot of people in my "real life" that I can say the same about....but I think on here we just get to the heart of matters more quickly. How often do we get to have such great discussions in the "real world", and with such an amazing variety of people all at one time. I love many of the people I've met on here, and think of them as true friends...they are a blessing in my life.

You are so sweet, (((((Uncle)))))! I do wish I could meet in real life with many of the people I have encountered on here. I do get my brain stimulated on here a lot and enjoy having to look at things differently. Personally, I could have a good time just talking with intelligent people, like the ones here and just have a soda or tea.

We tend to see what sticks out of the crowd, in a positive and negative sense: I tend to remember the idiots from R&S and the genial people.
I wouldn't say it spoiled me, but perhaps I'm a bit of an exception? I study classical voice at university, as well as Scandinavian Studies. I can proudly say that most people who study that are exceptionally smart, certainly wise and intelligent. I tend to surround myself with people where I am grateful that they stoop so low as to talk to me: a friend of mine is an incredibly good composer (and I mean that, I know a bit about music and modern music). He can compose new items within a day. He can improvise the piano to a point where his teachers can't teach him anymore. I love him for that.
Other friends are so socially intelligent and smart, and all of us enjoy arts like plays in theatres, books, classical music. To be honest, R&S so far hasn't topped that. But people like ZeroCool or the Reverend Soleil are certainly close - it's just that real life proves to be a bit more important.

What do I have to say to get myself into that hall of fame!
Any way who was looking after the books in the UU while you are building that thing?

Thank Uncle
I just popped back to give my little contribution to your encyclopaedia.
'Iron Handed Faith' for his ability to enlighten me with his boot camp Biblical training by bursting my "twinkie filled bubble" when introducing me to concepts I had never before thought of.
Help can anyone tell what an 'antiagnostic' is if it's not a gnostic?

R/S should contain an 'intelligence warning', as cigarettes contain a health woraning.
And how come I didn't spot my spelling of warning?!
What wonderful people are here - perhaps all R/S questions should start with the word 'intelligence'. It seems to filter out those who are a bit short on it!
Happy Christmas to all who aren't offended by the greeting, and 'Hi' to the rest of you.

You know, that's a good observation. It's true... there's such a remarkable concentration of brilliant, articulate people here that one gets accustomed to bringing one's intellectual "A game" to the party. Then when you instinctively do that out in the rather dimmer "real world", you find yourself sailing about a mile over people's heads.
I do so love (almost) everyone's brains here.
