Most puppies are born with them yes because the mothers immune system is quite low after whelping You will see little white bugs in their stool.

If she herself has been clear of worms maybe not but many do not show up in the stool readily. Worming the mother first before birth is advisable. Pups every two weeks.

Also if the pups gums are white and the belly's distended abnormally round then most likely they are wormy. Weight should be evenly distributed in non wormy pups.

Roundworms that are expelled are about 3-4 inches long. Tapeworms come out about 1 1/2-2 inches long and dry up to the size of a grain of rice. They don't show on a fecal test. There is an over the counter drug that is the generic version of Droncit (which vets use for tapeworm). Other wormers will not kill tape. It's called Pranziquantel. You can get it at most larger pet stores for under $20.00. I've used it on rescues and my own so it is safe. Fleas are the cause of tapeworm, so make sure that you have treated for fleas.

Most puppies are born with roundworms and a veterinarian will usually give pups medication for worms at around 3 weeks old, and again before they go to their new homes.

A mild case of worms will not usually do much damage, but a severe worm infestation can cause health problems. You can sometimes see the worms (like small grains of white rice) in your puppys stools, or in really bad cases puppies may vomit or poop out bunches of worms.

Signs of worm infestation can include a skinny appearance but with a round, distended belly; a dry, rough coat; coughing or gagging; ravenous appetite .... and more.

If you're at all concerned, take your puppy to a veterinarian who will do a stool sample and prescribe the correct medications. DOn't use over the counter products, they're often ineffective and can be dangerous.

Ringworm is a contagious fungal infection of the skin. The name is actually a misnomer as the skin infection is not caused by worms at all but instead refers to the circular lesions that often develop. There are some signs that can alert you to a possible ringworm infection on your dog and the need to seek treatment from a professional.

Step One

Examine your dog for signs of ringworm when you know that he has been exposed to another carrier. Dogs can catch this fungal infection from other animals or from humans who have an infection and are contagious. Exposure is typically 10 to 12 days before lesions appear.

Step Two

Watch for small reddish pimples or bumps that spread into a circle or oval on your dog's skin. This raised circle is what gives ringworm its name. Not all dogs will develop a circular patch, however. The skin in the area will be flaky or scaly.

Step Three

Observe any signs of sudden hair loss, especially when the hair loss is in a circular area. There are other causes of hair loss and they should also be considered, but the circular pattern is a good hint to think about ringworm as a possible cause. If the fungus has spread, hair loss can take irregular shapes as it spreads over the body.

Step Four

Use an ultraviolet Wood's lamp or black light on your dog. Around 50 percent of ringworm strains will glow a florescent green. Other strains can still be present so this is not a foolproof test for ringworm.

Step Five

Visit your vet to have a ringworm culture or other tests done. Ringworm can be difficult to diagnose by sight, so your vet may microscopically inspect your dog's hair or perform a scraping and culture of the area. Cultures can take several weeks before a positive or negative result is known so your vet may initiate treatment before a positive finding.

Step Six

Treat all dogs and other animals within the household. If one animal is infected, others may have the infection but not be showing observable signs. Treating all animals with antifungal shampoos may head it off at the pass.

All puppies, some how get such infestation. In puppies, there are no telltale signs for roundworms. But sometimes, you will notice small blister like eruptions on their stomach or belly. They appear to be filled with pus,but they vanish without traces within a week or so.Secondly, there can be rashes on the skin of puppies. The puppies will also vomit for no apparant reason. But the best thing would be to check their stool. And one thing kindly note, antihelminthic drugs are real poisonous.Even well tolerable dosages prescribed by vets can kill most puppies.I have such experience.I lost one of my GSD and her pup, because of such medication.Since that day I have never given such drugs to my dogs, even if prescribed by the vets. And all my dogs have survived inspite of the vet telling that they have worms. But in case of Cats, its real serious.I have lost also a couple of cats to roundworm.

Roundworms are the most common type of parasite in dogs. Just worm them regularly. You vet could do a fecal, but it is an added expense. Just worm them.

Not all puppies are born with them. There will be white things in your dogs waste products. If you are still unsure, go ahead and visit the vet.
