Well your parents may be right not including the cleaning part. See if you have enough time, space, and money to own a dog, maybe they mean you still have to be responsible when you really do have a dog. I had this same problem and exactly for a year. And they were right, now I have a dog and I don't even bother cleaning, maybe it's because I spend all my time on here. But If you have thought all of that through I would say you could keep it clean for 3-6 months, then do extra chores, but don't ask them too often because they could expand the time line, just do the things your parents want you to do and this should work, since I got my dog 5 or 6 months earlier since I didn't ask for a long time. Or you could convince them, which is what I did, Say this: Hey mom, dad, I just want to really ask you again if I can have a dog, It's a man's best friend and they are very loyal and loving, and they are always with you as a companian. This may take time but try it anyway, but before you really do get a dog you must do a holy lot of research, I did 3 months of reading before I got my Chihuahua and now I am even helping people older than me on here with dogs. So Good Luck!

Sounds like your parents think you are not responsible enough to have a dog. A dog is a big committment and lots of work.
Be a responsible person and clean your room and do your best to show your parents that your are ready to commit to looking after a dog.
Very often children ask for a pet and the parents are the ones that end up taking care of it.
I'm sure that when your parents see that you are ready to handle a dog, they will allow you to have one. You might be surprised and find you won't have to wait 4 years. Good Luck.

I would suggest keeping your room clean for a year(since this is what they asked). You may also want to ask a neighbor/friend if they need anyone to take their dog for a walk, or exercise them in the yard for an hour, etc. You could show your parents that you are committed to the daily care of a dog(even if it is not your own). This could also help you wait the year it takes for you to get your own dog.

Dogs require a schedule. They need to be fed and exercised. Perhaps playing with the neighbors dog on a regular basis could show your parents you are serious.
Caring for them on a daily basis is what most parents want to avoid. if you can guarantee them they won't have to take care of the dog them you are in. However that means coming home to be responsible for their food and water every day.

Don't wait for them to ask you to do it do it as a normal thing if they have to continuously tell you then you are showing you don't have the responsability to have a pup.
Also you should do extra chores around the house without being asked.
Maybe you can get a job like shoveling snow, walking a neighbors dog, babysitting to make extra money to help buy supplies for the pup.

dont keep bugging them
clean your room
and do things that will show responsibility
also ask them why you cant get one now
show more interest in dogs
find out what kind you want
if you are lucky and there isnt a big problem with a dog in your house you might get one in less than a month
Your parents might notbe able to afford one at the monent so look for good offers

I have kids...and we have dogs, and only in the beginning did they help with feeding, bathing, brushing...
The thing I am looking for in my kids, is for them to do things without being asked...if you see a mess...clean it up, even if you didn't make it..you need to show them responsibilty...
Do this for a few months...and then write them a letter saying why you want a dog, explain in detail what YOU know you will have to do to take care of the dog, and tell you know there will be consequences if you don't hold up to your end of the deal!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Well, my parents got me a dog when I made it into a good middle school. Show your parents that you are responsible by keeping neat, being patient with younger siblings (if you have any), getting good grades, doing chores that you aren't doing right now and treating your parents well. These will help show that you are responsible enough to get a dog.
