Hi, regular paint would go down on concrete but it is not as durable and will chip and flake off. (concrete is porous) If you want to do a good job and have it last along time then once you remove your old carpet it would be a good idea to sweep it out really well and even pressure wash it to get any dirt or grime out of the cracks and crevices. Ideally you would wait 2 more days to make sure that it is completely dry. Do another sweep before you begin painting. Now the paint, you can even get at Wal-Mart. There is a paint specially for garage floors. It is about 18.00 a gallon. I did approximately 600 square feet (1 car garage) with 1 gallon and a roller on a stick. It only took me about an hour to complete. They have several colors. I used battleship grey.
Check the labels or ask for some help because there are some brands that warn you that they can become quite slick if they get wet.

Yes you can paint concrete floors. The prep work is the key. Once you remove the carpet, you need to sweep, and then clean with a mild acid solution. You then need to rinse and rinse again. (DO NOT use a pressure washer, this will not clean the surface effectively and will only add more moisture to the concrete). I would do all the prep work at least a week before putting down your floor paint. You will probably spend about 20-25 dollars/gallon and get about 400 square feet/gallon. Put down two coats. I would recommend using a latex concrete floor paint and follow those directions on the back of that can. Check out www.ugl.com/drylock/floorpaint...

I used concrete floor paint and it worked OK but from moving things over the floor it scratched some of the paint off. If you are going to be a little rough on the floor I would go with the epoxy paint, it's more expensive but very durable.

Clean the Floor thoroughly and use a special Product (ask at the Hardware Store) to prep the Concrete. You then can use any Porch Paint for example. You may never put Wood over it. I love Concrete and just use area rugs. What a pleasure to clean.

Yes , you can paint concrete floors. First, clean the concrete withTSP(you can get at any hardware store).Second, you will need to put a coat of primer on the floor before you paint. Third, get a good quality concrete paint. Dont skimp on paint quality. Its better to spend a few bucks extra then to have to go back and make repairs, etc.

Are you wanting to paint the concrete floors or stain the concrete?

You can either use paint made for concrete floors or you can stain them. I really prefer the look of stained concrete. You are starting to see that in some upscale lofts.

you need to purchase a paint specifically for concrete. Regular paint will bubble and peel for the moisture.
