Whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
--2 Chronicles 15:13

What is the context for this passage that would allow me to feel comfortable walking among Christians?

This is copy/paste from KJV. Sorry you don't like The Word of God.

the translation is a bit off, the hebrew says and those who did not seek the lord god of israel were put to death etc...
basically, they had one of those religious revivals and killed anyone who didnt renounce the dieties and return to the official religion of the king.
this is nothing new in the kingdoms of the lorts of hosts.
so... basically you got to avoid revival meetings unless you do seek TLGoI.

Take it literally. It's part of a historical account of something that happened. God's chosen people had again turned from Him for a while. They were now turning back to Him (we all seem to do that when stuff gets bad).

They were basically forming a new team - any traitors would cost them more than a touchdown, it could cost them all their lives - so anyone that wouldn't swear allegiance to the God of Israel (you know, the team captain, owner and manager) was put to death.

Generals since the beginning of time killed traitors - seems like a really smart thing to.

My dear friends, as one of the Christians you are to fear, I will answer this question. Please read the entire passage and understand that they were making a covenant with God after a long period of disobedience. In this time there were no Bibles as we have today so it was a common thing for them to make covenants with God. So to answer your question, if you join a group of Christians who make a covenant with God to kill anyone who does not seek God, then I guess you would be in danger. But they would also been committing a sin as it would be called murder. If you notice it does not say that this ever happened as with many covenants made by man to God, it was broken later as God knew that it would be. If you are seeking God, Concentrate on the words of Jesus first before you try and understand the Old Testament. To my atheist friend from Canada, have you ever considered the fact that you may be wrong about Christianity? To assume one is right about something this permanent would be considered ignorant. I live the life and struggle everyday, I know it is real. I also realize why it is hard to believe and understand. I was very skeptical at first. The words in the Bible will never convince you. Asking God to forgive you of your sins, then trying to follow his instructions will.

This refers to the Jewish people in the Old Testament who had married women from other religions, and who went on worshiping their gods and idols, and not following Jewish faith and law. It was a warning that they should learn their new faith or be eliminated. It also presages the wisdom of marrying within your own faith or having the spouse convert. This is still that snarky saying among some Jewish boys; the shiksas are for fun and practice, not for marriage.

"Christians" will inevitably say that since Jesus came and "paid our ransom," it's no longer necessary to kill people who don't believe in the God of Israel. In the old days, yes; but not anymore. Now, the only question is whether you "accept Jesus," and if you don't, the Christians won't kill you - they'll just inform you that God will roast you in Hell for all eternity after you die of natural causes.

First, you need to realize that this scripture was written to a different audience under a different program. It is NOT the instructions given for those who are BODY MEMBERS today. The "address" of the scripture tells us that this is under the program where God dealt with Israel.

True believers and their instructions are found in Romans thru Philemon and there isnt a discouraging word to be found there.

It all depends on the translation you read. Here's a better one:

"Everywun who was just like o yer w/e wuz haxxed."
2 Chronicles 15:13 LCB (lolcat Bible)

In context, it was talking about those specifically among them at that specific event and time. It's not universally applicable.
