You don't have to be rude just say I really love kissing you when your breath smells minty. If he doesn't get it make him a dentist appointment. Just don't make him feel bad. Good luck

If your boyfriend has bad breath, there are a limited number of reasons why.
1. bad oral hygeine. If this is the reason, then he has to be told. The teeth he has are the only teeth he will get - ever. He needs to take care of them. Also, disease of the mouth can cause worse problems, like heart and brain disease. So, if this is the reason - talk to him and send him to the dentist - pronto. This isn't a rude question, it's a health question and You'd tell him if he had cancer so he could get chemo, right?
2. Another health problem - Lots of things, from Acid Reflux to a cold can cause bad breath. If this is the case, tell him to go to the doctor and get it fixed. You probably don't even need to bring up the breath thing. He'll have other symptoms.
3. You just don't like his smell. Humans are primates and we are very keyed to smell romantically. Science is unsure of why, but some people just have a body smell that certian other people just don't like and this is directly linked to our passion for that person. People in studies have become aroused by the smell of their partner's clothing. They suspect it is something genetic, and that people whose smells we dislike might not be sutable genetic matches for us. Do other people think his breath smells? If not, you might have to relegate yourself to buying him breath mints and mouth wash. I'd suggest if this is the case, you develope habit of eating them and offer them to him frequently. Not only might it make him subconsciously want to use them, but since Smell and taste are linked, it will mask the smell of his breath a little for you.
Good luck

If you are close enough to be dating, you should be able to be honest with him. When my bf has funky breath, I just ask him when the last time was that he brushed, kind of in a joking way. Then he gets the idea and pops a mint or goes to brush or rinse with mouthwash. You should be able to tell him things like that if you are in an honest relationship.

I just tell my husband, "Honey, your breath stinks" in a very matter-of-fact way, without being judgmental or sarcastic. He doesn't get offended and appreciates me letting him know so he can take care of it.

You don't really have to tell him. Just offer him a mint with no explanation. You can just say 'Want a mint?' and give it to him.
