so basically what you all arre saying is that the rules listed in the 10 comandments are good rules to follow & that christianity is a good practice to follow because its all about doing the right thing, then why dont you atheists just drop it. & leave the christians alone!

So because a fictional God wrote them we automactically have to disobey them? That seems pretty illogical. You are pretty much saying the only thing keeping me from killing would be knowing that a God exists which is obviously not true. Think of animals that have no souls according to God. They dont know of the ten commandments and yet they dont go around killing everything. Most of the laws are just common sense and common morals in everyone!

Those ten commandments that people associate with Christianity was taken from the negative confessions in the Egyptian book of the dead.
But anyway i don't need a book or a list of no no's in a book to be able to behave myself like a civilized individual. Why does it always come as a shock to religious people that we can use common sense as a reason not to kill and be perverts.

The 10 commadments are a basic code of society , just in general what you should do. Many of the things listed in the 10 commandments are Mala in se crimes. Which highlight society's conciousal belief that many of the things listed in them to be wrong. Maybe read up on that and not spread hate. I'm not an atheist nor chirtsian, so manybe I can look at it with a neutral view on it but still.

I have no opinion of the Ten Commandments.
I simply follow my own instincts as to what's right and what's wrong. It's kept me out of trouble so far: I'm a virgin, I've never gotten a ticket, never gotten in trouble period, I don't do drugs, I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't kill people or steal or hurt people...
As far as I'm concerned, hurting others or myself would not benefit me in the slightest. Why on earth would I try to ruin this life when it's the only life I have to live? Why would I smoke and risk lung cancer when I could live a longer, healthier life otherwise? Why would I do drugs when the ultimate outcome is being a screwed up junkie? Why would I kill someone when I would get no sense of satisfaction and I'd have a likelihood of getting caught?
Let's put it this way: I'm a girl, I'm not very strong, and I'm not one for planning. Why on earth would I try to kill somebody in a society like this? I'd end up wasting away in jail. Also, I'm not psycho, so I wouldn't enjoy it. Animals in the wild don't usually kill members of their own species; they have no reason to. I'm the same way. And if it weren't for the Ten Commandments, would YOU run around killing people? If so, I'm worried for you.
This is my only chance at living, so I'm doing it right. Why would I waste my time alive with stupid crap that only make life miserable? How does that have anything to do with the Commandments?

Oh dear. I do wish you'd read some of the answers to the endless stream of similar questions before going off on one yourself.
If you need the Ten Commandments to behave decently to other human beings, you're really not a very nice person, just someone who is scared of retribution. Most people in this world - atheists, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, humanists, Zoroastrians, Christians, agnostics, Muslims, pagans etc etc - have an inner sense of what is right. Respect for others is really quite basic to being human - we are naturally social beings and, like most social animals, we therefore aim to work reasonably co-operatively. Since we have the capacity for thought and consciousness, we tend to understand that basic rules like don't murder, don't cheat, don't rob, don't be unfaithful to your long-term partner, care for your children and your parents etc are necessary for our society to work well.
The Ten Commandments was an attempt to codify, within a particular group, what was already understood perfectly well. Most of us don't need some supernatural being to tell us to behave decently.
EDIT: you sound very angry about the fact that atheists are critical of Christians. The thing is, it's not the Ten Commandments that atheists get upset about. It's that Christians are so convinced of their own rightness that some of them can be loud and belligerent - bullying and abusive to those of other faiths, acting superior, and in some cases downright threatening. The Ten Commandments is just not the issue.

Which ten commandments are you talking about, the first set(exodus 20) or the second set(exodus 34)? I don't really have an opinion about why the final tenth commandment is, 'don't boil a baby goat in its mother's milk'.
By the way, atheists make up about 0.02% of the prison population in the U.S. So, you'll have to look to the religious cultists for your killers, theives and rapists.

How misguided you sound. Apart from the worship god bit all the other commandments are taken from laws in many societies that predate Christianity by centuries.
Even most primitive tribes had similar rules for conduct!!!
Of course I suppose Christians believe that no one was hauled before the courts for murder, theft and other offenses before the commandments were written!!!!!
As for killers and sexual offenders research in both the US and Europe show that there is a hugely disproportionate number of Christians in jail for sexual offense and that most murderers claim to be Christian!!!!!!!

A fictitious Moses wrote those. All plagiarized from Hammurabi and the Egyptian Book of the Dead.
Since when do killers and thieves care about them. And further who on this planet cares or follows any of them today?

I think its pretty scary if you need the bible to tell you that killing .. stealing .. lieing .. sexual acts ..etc ..are wrongful ..
I dont need the bible to tell me these things .. its called common sense .. humans are not born evil .. we are taught evil growing up.
Do you have to read the comandments every night before bed to refresh your memory of what is wrong ? cuz thats the way you made it seem
