Help! My husband brought home the world's ugliest Christmas tree and I have no idea how to make this thing look good.

Actually, the top of the tree is ok, but the bottom is almost completely bare. The lower branches are very wide, and have little tufts of needles towards the outside of the tree, but nothing at all at the inner part of the tree.

I've strongly suggested cutting off the bottom branches and the bottom two feet of the trunk, but my husband doesn't want to "lose the height". Personally, I'd much rather have a short tree that looks relatively normal than this weird, freaky tree.

I'm not a Christmas Tree snob. I love the little Charlie Brown trees, but I just don't know what to do with this strange half-naked tree. Please help me figure out if there is a way to disguise the empty branches at the bottom of the tree.

I wish I could show you a picture, but my daughter has my camera for the weekend, so you'll have to use your imagination.

Your question cracks me up and it also brings back fond memories of some of the less than normal trees we had when I was a child. We always stuck the tree in a corner, so there were two walls to hide any gaps in the branches. Tinsel was always applied liberally, as were strings of blinking lights.

You could also think about wrapping up some empty boxes in pretty wrapping paper. The more "presents" that appear under the tree, the more they will draw people's attention away from your tree's shortcomings.

Merry Christmas!

I just found a site with thousands of downloadable woodworking plans, it s really great. You can check it out here ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info ) Here is an honest review : If you want to start a woodworking project, you need all the necessary information, including schematics, blueprints, materials lists, dimensions etc. That is where TedsWoodworking comes in. The plans are clearly drawn and there're step-by-step explainations of how the plan should be done and put together. There are several other sites whose collection of plans have the dimensions totally wrong without any indication of parts lists, material lists or the tools needed. If you're one of those people who have bought plans like this in the past, TedsWoodworking will change your perception. In Ted's Woodworking you will get everything you need: Diagrams which are detailed with a full set of dimensions, step-by-step instructions how to start your project and the necessary materials for that particular project. All the woodworking tools you will need: If you are a beginner or have done some woodworking you will find these plans easy-to-follow as the instructions are very clearly written. The woodworking plans are straightforward so they are not complicated at all. Even if you are a total newcomer to woodworking you will simply be able to master all the techniques that are needed and the woodworking skills very quickly by following the concise and clear instructions. Another thing which is so great about these woodworking plans is that there have been some videos included and there are some to guide you in how to build benches home furniture dog houses bird feeders sheds and much much more. There is also a lifetime member acess included in the package and you get these extras for no cost to you as they are free with no additional charges at all! This alone is worth the entire price for TedsWoodworking. Ted Mcgrath is a very dedicated and experienced woodworker who knows what he is talking about when it comes to woodworking and DIY projects s he has been a woodworker for many many years. There is only one drawback that we could find and that being with 16,000 woodworking plans you are bound to get some which look a little disorganized but that is understandable as it is very difficult to place all these plans into their proper categories. Secondly, it might take you a little longer to do the downloads on because of the size of them. But the members area include an option to upgrade to the DVD so you can save time on downloading. I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars. Here's the bottom line: If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you SHOULD use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Check the site: ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info )

Several options. Relatively bare branches offer a great opportunity to layer ornaments on branches. Hang some toward the inside as well as the outside to create interest and depth. After you have hung ornaments, consider small bunches of baby's breath or artificial stems of holiday flowers or gold/icey/silver stems of filler. These can be stuffed in the tree in a way that follows the line of the branch below it. To some extent this gives the effect of ice on top of a branch - and can really fill things in. Treat you top a little bit differently, I would suggest that you have ribbon cascading down from the top of the tree to approximately the mid-point. This really draws the eye upward and makes the differences between the upper and lower parts of your tree part of the design. If you absolutely must fill in the tree, with tree branches, see if you can go back to where the tree was purchased and get some same type branches that have been cut off as waste. Simply insert these in between the existing branches, so that they do not extend all the way to the outside of the tree. However, becareful, these branches will dry out faster than the rest of the tree. Good luck and happy holidays!

Go to a craft store and get fake tree branches (make sure you get the same type as you tree) Stick them in the bald spots of the tree to make it seem fulller. Just don't hang and ornaments on the fake branches(unless they are really light weight).

An empty tree holds lots of ornaments. Line them up with several on one branch. Fill in with tinsel rope and popcorn strings. I make popcorn strings with red wood beads instead of cranberries, because they always get soft, stain the corn next to them and then fall off. I save the beads year to year.
