Your ignorance is astounding, but understandable with your mindset towards people who respond to your urban myth question.

So four people told you a story which remains unsubstantiated, not mentioned in the history of the carrier, or in the newspapers of the day.

Is it not unreasonable to think that the Navy could not organise a tow with their own ships instead of having to resort to starting jet engines to get them away from the dock?

What would the effect have been to the buildings alongside the dock if this happened!!

Go to the link and take a look at the PROPELLER driven aircraft on the deck of the Sydney during the Korean war.

I repeat. If the story begins "Now this ain't no sheet" all to follow is fiction.

Your lack of mechanical knowledge is showing big at this point. Why would you destroy the engines of your squadrons to leave port instead of an armed take over of some tugs?

Maybe they are having a laugh at how stupid and gullible someone must be to even believe such a story, even worse be stupid enough to post it on a forum. My father served in the Royal Navy (Fleet Air Arm) 26 years and he said it never happened.
