No. Evil is a mindset. It is programmed into us as children. Right vs wrong - etc. It's like the morality idea. We are programmed early on and it stays with us throughout our life until we learn more about it. There is positive and negative energy all around us like the north and south poles - it pulls in both directions. Religious ideas tend to make it black and white with no spectrum. As humans we should be able to relate to the whole picture and not keep picking it apart with just a black and white spectrum. For that matter I don't believe there really is black or white in the spectrum, rather many colors that make up either or.

dang...u better check up on the dictionary...being an atheist doesnt mean we believe god doesn't exist, it means we are an unbeliever in god or any kind of deities. If god exist we still hav evil, if there isnt a god we still might have evil. When there is good there is bad...you cant seperate them...personally i think the first christian groups believed so much in satan and the opposites of god that their evil thoughts came alive...

~~~ kj ,,, You must be consistent in your formulation of the Q. "God" is the theistic symbol of Ultimate Compassion and Love therefore the counterpart to this is found in the Symbolic Icon of "Satan" in which your "evil" is manifested. Your "measuring stick" was faulty from the beginning of your Q structure. However to follow your intent, the answer would obviously be Satan, as there can be no Yin without it's counterpart of Yang. This is part of The Duality of The Universe as represented in the ancient Chinese symbol of Divine Order as the Tai Chi or YinYang,,,, and Newtonian Physics.
No. The Devil is a fiction, but we know about the reality of evil. We all have our favorite examples. There are in fact people who enjoy making others suffer, bend to their will, taking whatever they want without regard to justice or fairness -- in short, being evil.
Hmmm, are you saying that evil depends on there being a God?
Maybe that's right. I don't believe in God and I don't really believe in "EVIL". I think that some people do evil things but not that there is some big evil force in the universe.
No? Some people are inherently evil and will continue to be so even without the existence of a God.
Depends on how you define 'evil'.
Personally, I would define evil as intentionally doing harm to your fellow human beings, the environment or the community for your own personal profit, amusement or aggrandizement.
A case could then be made that such individuals as Robert Pickton, Adolf Hitler, and even George Bush are evil.
Deities are not needed to exacerbate human condition. All human beings are born with potential - the potential to do good in their lives, and the potential to do bad. Most are pretty much in the middle with their share of good and bad that has occurred for them or that they have caused to occur. Given that, what you term 'evil' will always exist as it is part of humanity.
This question is weak.
In Buddhism, Good exists because evil exist. If one didn't exist, then the other couldnt, it would just be.
Its called balance and is a simple law of the universe
In other words men invented deities cause they cringe at the spectacle of an evil world?
Do you need to fight an evil with religious intolerance, inquisition, pogroms, Holocaust etc?
Is two evils better than one?
