and they are getting upset because you have not yet left..is that acceptabel to you?

example.. you normally run late, so did not pin down a time. In fairness, you say you will stop in for a visit anytime between 11am-1pm... and they call you at 10:30am , already acting pissy..

how would you deal with that?

I understand where you're coming from, but the bottom line is you are being disrespectful to the other person by not giving an exact time you will be there. Think about it. You are expecting other people to sit around for two hours and wait for you. The best thing for you to do is to give an exact time you will arrive and be there at that time.

I used to work for a guy who had no concept of time either. It was the most annoying thing. He'd say 9:00 a.m. for a meeting, then at 9:00 say he would be with you in just a few minutes, then show up at your office at noon as you were putting on your coat to go to lunch. He was this way with all the employees and managers, and even with customers. It was just pathetic and people did not respect him.

The only time a window is an acceptable time to give is when the window is small, like between 11:00 and 11:15, depending on traffic. The only people who should be making large windows of time like you are describing are utility service folks like the cable or phone guys.

You should really work on being a person who does NOT run late more than a couple of minutes. People will have more respect for you and you won't encounter this type of response to your rude behavior.

Seriously, I'd say, "It sounds like you're not having a good day. I think I should come over some other time."

With some people, if you say 11-1, they will only hear the 11. You should probably just say you'll be there at 1.
