Calcium

Milk contains minerals that are needed for the bones, such as calcium and phosphorus. However people are of the opinion that the milkfat is harmful. It is not, if the diet is planned with the total fat intake in mind. Skim milk lacks the vitamin D necessary for absorption of the calcium into the body. Even the fortified skim milk contains artificial vitamin D and that is not absorbed without the presence of fat. It is better to drink a lowfat or whole milk rather than nonfat if you want to strengthen the bones. Children should have whole fat milk. to insure they are getting the minerals and vitamin A and D from the milk. You cannot efficiently use the calcium from the milk if you do not eat vegetables and fruits containing magnesium . The body needs half as much magnesium as it does calcium. Dark green leafy cooked vegetables such as spinach and kale are high in magnesium. and are also good sources of iron and copper for the blood. To ensure a healthy body it is necessary to have a wide variety of nutitious foods.

Dairy foods are a convenient and nutritous source of many nutrients, but if you have allergies to dairy it is possible to get the nutrients from other sources, and one should study out nutrition charts when planning meals.

OK sTrAnGeR, Milk is loaded with calcium which you're bones are made of. If you don't like milk. there are other foods that have large amounts of calcium in them. Spinach is one. Oops, you may not like spinach that much either. But the point is if you look up calcium on the Internet, you will find a lists of lots of foods rich in calcium. Most people say milk when calcium is mentioned but you can get it in other foods as well. Also calcium isn't only good for bones, It plays an important role in other health functions as well such as heart rhythm. Calcium is one of the main building blocks of the body. And spinach isn't all that bad either.

The pro-milk faction believes that increased calcium intake - particularly in the form of the currently recommended three glasses of milk per day - will help prevent osteoporosis, the weakening of bones. Each year, osteoporosis leads to more than 1.5 million fractures, including 300,000 broken hips.

On the other side are those who believe that consuming a lot of milk and other dairy products will have little effect on the rate of fractures but may contribute to problems such as heart disease or prostate cancer.

Which view is right? The final answers aren't in. But here is a summary of what's currently known about calcium and its effects on the body.

You're funny! lol

Yep milk help because of calcium in it. If you don't want your bones to be weak when you get older and don't care for milk. then take a calcium pill.

Problem solved

Have a good day :)

Calcium yes, but calcium alone is not good enough. Calcium in combination with vitamin D is the key, and milk has both. If you don't want to drink milk, you can go to a vitamin store and get suppliments that contain both.

Calcium is in milk. Calcium gives you strong bones, it doesn't make them look better..what'd be the point in that? If you don't get enough calcium, your bones become brittle and break more easily. So a doctor might be seeing them, afterall.

It has Calcium, which helps build and maintain bones. Also since you are female, calcium is much more important to you because women have a high chance of osteoperosis in their later years of life.
