Well, honestly it depends. I don’t smile to men, because I don’t want to give men the wrong message… you never know how that person would take the friendly smile. Even if a man would smile to me, I don’t smile back. Unless that person man or women is my cashier or a worker helping me at the store, then I smile. I try to smile to everyone in my college class, whether they initiate the smile or not…there’s only 1 quiet guy there (like 35ish, lol). Personally I don’t think theirs a lot of friendly ladies who just smile on the street/the stores, so I don’t come across this situation often. I mostly get stares by ladies, so if a lady looks at me then I would smile…then look away. But I don't randomly smile to people on the street/the stores. Plus I'm always with my family, so we're busy talking with each other lol. Peace.

You must of read the answer somebody gave in another question. LOL You are to smile to all humankind, it's the easiest charity to give. We are supposed to be the viceregents over the earth, how could we be that if we are only good to our own? But people do think I hardly smile, that's just me I guess, not an active choice I make. When I greet ppl I smile though. I've gotten hired for jobs just based on my cheerful smile before. LOL Kinda funny since some ppl say I don't smile enough.

My Dear, I have not come across within the teachings of Islam that we should restrict ourselves from smiling to the next person (Muslim or Non Muslims) - except for Sisters - there are certain restriction.. I suggest the smile should be genuine - ( I have come across so many times non Muslims gives fake smile) - Some Muslims are very negative - when are given smile - they assume that a person want to ask for a favour.
This is a good and technical question....I never thought you would ask such question. I smile to everyone regardless of her/his faith except for sometimes I find it very hard to smile to a Jew cause I have never seen them smile at me! I am sorry to say this but its the fact and I have been honest.

I smile and Muslims and non Muslims. A smile is charity. Plus if you smile at a non Muslim you are giving dawah in a small form by showing Muslims can be kind.

i just smile at children and women, especially old. Never smile at any man. And when I smile I don't know who they are, muslims or non-muslims, I just smile because it makes me and the other person feel good. and I really don't care who the other person is. Just a smile makes anyone happy for a sec. I 'm happy with that. ~! :)

I smile all the time to all people. I don't care whether a person is muslim or not. They are all equal for me. I treat them as they treat me. If a person is good to me, no matter what his/her religion is I love them and I treat them well.
Religion is the last thing I think about.

Peace
