RE:
what can i use to keep an area rug in place on a hardwood floor?

You can use rug padding which will prevent it from slipping. This also prolongs the life of your rug and makes it easier to vacuum. The type of rug pad you get you want to make sure it will not discolor your hardwood. You can get them on-line or where area rugs are sold. Measure the length and width of your rug and then subtract 2" from that and that is the size of rug pad that you will need. Hope this helps you out!

There is nothing that will totally keep the area rug in place. However, depending on the size of the area rug, you may be able to move furniture closer to the corners of the rug, thus weighing it down. Secondly, it may be a good idea to place a heavy coffee table or some type of centerpiece over the rug.

had the same exact issue some time ago.....rug sellers in many cases will provide you free of charge a rubber undermat that will hold the rug to the floor. it's a thin rubber mat that is not noticeable when you walk on the rug or when you look at it. usually the mat has one smooth surface (floor side) and the other side is not smooth but has a friction surface to hold and hug the rug .

Buy a thin rubber mat to place under the rug. Neither the mat nor the rug will slide. If it bothers you when the corners keep coming up, you could put a few stitches in each corner of the rug and the mat.

apparently you don't have a rubber backing rug...so if ya have duck-tap it is the grey tape use to seal heater ducks, then ya take a long piece and connect the ends....this will give you a stickey side for the rug and a sticky side for the floor...use more than one piece...I would use one at each corner..

You can get this stuff at the dollar store, slip stop or something like that. Its used to also keep dishes from sliding around in cabinets in trailers.
