I'm convinced that there are many Americans working for Mossad -- not in a conspiracy sort of way, but just practically speaking. There are hundreds of thousands of American Israelis in Israel -- OF COURSE some work for Mossad. And Shin Bet, too. And, very obviously, the IDF (several died in the recent war with Hizbollah).

First of all they are not Jewish. They live in the bay area and attended UC Berkeley. One that I know of works for a media company in San Francisco. The couple were living in Syria at the time of their trip to the mountains. They said people in Syria recommended the spot in Iraq for a vacation. I think they were held as long as they were so Ahmadinejad would look good to his supporters, or possibly they were trying to negotiate to get the 5 detained Iranians back from Iraq held for 5 years in U.S. custody. They were convicted of spying on Iran. That is not far-fetched since the CIA has agents on the ground in Iran and the U.S. has satellite surveillance of Iran. The U.S. did business with the Soviet Union while each was threatening the other. I dont see why the U.S. could not resume diplomacy with Iran which does not even threaten the U.S.
