Hi,
No not necessarilly. Darkness can also be symbollic, describing the 'darkness' inside when someone's soul is in torment or they're going through sadness. Darkness can be a mood, a feeling, a heavy atmosphere
Also in actuality, light a candle in the dark, there is still darkness beyond the flickering flame, but not total absence of light.

You have asked some interesting questions this morning!

I would say yes. Physically, light truly exists; as elemental particles/waves (photons) in motion as electromagnetic radiation; which can be measured in the laboratory, or sensed as sunlight hitting the skin which results in a suntan. Physically, darkness does not exist; there are no elemental particles of darkness; darkness cannot be measured or sensed.

I think it is, but first you have to define "light." Light gives us the ability to see, so it must have many attributes. We can see with love, faith, and logic - pretty much what Paul told Timothy; "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind"

I guess the different degrees of darkness is pretty much contingent upon the degree of absence of power/faith/hope, love/good/sympathy, and, or logic/knowledge/wisdom.

Based on the above I guess that the different types of darkness are fear, hate, and ignorance. Thanks for the philosophincal thought provoking question :)

I would say absence of light of right-knowledge is darkness of wrong-knowledge!

Well in astrophysics, black is nothing, space and abosrbs all liht, eg a black hole. so yes, it is the absence of light.
