Drive letters?

Question

I have an internal card reader installed in my machine (running Vista 64-bit Ultimate). The four card slots appear in "My Computer" as removable disks. I would like to find a way to keep the drivers and drive letters intact, but have them only appear when in use. Thus, optimally I would only see the drive letter of the card that is in use, or none at all (if I'm not using any). Does anyone know of a strategy to achieve this?
