Does anyone know the best way to connect a Wii ti my HDTV to give the best picture? I know the Wii is not HD but the lead that came with it is just the basic yellow, white, red that goes into my componen or into a scart adaptor, then in the scart socket at the back. The Wii settings show 480i 480p and EDTV (presumably HDTV). The EDTV option is blank therefore I cant select it. I think this will give a better picture as its all a bit washy and blurry edged. What type of connector should i be using to get the best picture? I have the lastest Sony with all the inputs on my TV for you info.. I currently just have the 480p selected which i know is better than 480i..

480p is the Wii's best output and is much better than 480i. EDTV generally means the same thing. If 480p is working for you, which is questionable through the 3-head composite (not component) cable that you've got, you should be noticing a big difference right off the bat if you switch the 480p option off and back on.
If not, you should get a component video cable. Those have 5 plugs, 2 for audio, 3 for video. The red, white and yellow composite cables have only one video cable and generally lack the bandwidth necessary to send a progressive-scan signal.
If the Wii has a specialized output, there is probably a component cable made for Wii available.

btw those yellow, red and white cables are constantly called "component" by retailers and it confuses a lot of people. Nowadays they're "composite" cables. "Component" cables have 5 plugs.

To get the best picture you will need to buy component cables (Blue, Green, Red for picture and Red/White for audio). Be sure to buy the Nintendo brand component cables, the 3rd party ones, while cheaper, are of low quality.

You will spend about 30 for the cables.
