I am so sick of working minumum wage doing retail (and food). I am almost done with my Associates of Science degree and I am beginning to get impatient. Is there any kind of job I can snag with an Associates of Science? Anything at all? Answering phones somewhere, an internship, ANYTHING? I can't take it anymore. I don't want to be in retail until I get my bachelors.

Negative Nancy,

You have not said for which discipline you are receiving an Associate Degree. This can make a big difference.

If you have an AAS in Nursing you can take the NCLEX RN and work making approximately $55,000 a year, in this city. However, if you have as AS in Medical Assisting from the same community college, and make $13,000 if you can get one of the 90 positions which have come available for the 1200 graduates from the 20 different schools providing day and evening programs in both certificate and associate level programs in medical assisting in the city.

So it really depends, on what degree discipline you have, and what location you live.

Good luck.

This is a really open ended question. There are so many variables involved. Job markets vary depending on the geographic location. Are their jobs in your town? Do I have to relocate to make an comfortable living? These are the questions you must answer.

The bottom line is an Associate of Science degree is better than no degree. Any form of education makes you more marketable and attractive in the job corp. I would put your resume on-line at various job headhunting companies (Monster, yahoo jobs, etc.). For a fee they will do their best to find you a reputable job with a good company.

Good luck!

many well paying civil service jobs require 60 credit hours of college, regardless of your major. the pay is excellent, the job security in many of them are high, and the opportunity for advancement is alot more promising than the private sector. education is very important, but i have friends with masters degrees that are still working minimum wage jobs.
