is it wrong to be ambivalent?

Not wrong, just well, how do I put it,,, less definitive perhaps. Or maybe it's okay and just confusing?

If ambivalence is the simultaneous awareness of contradictory thoughts, attitudes or feelings, then much of humanity is ambivalent most of the time.

The few, the proud, the self-righteous, the always know exactly "how I feel" and are perfectly aware of what needs to be done next may be "wrong" even if firm in their resolve.

If this is just a question to which you want a "Jesus saves" answer, then ask how you would feel if your father (who has always led a no drinking or smoking life) dies of cancer; you mother (the Sunday school teacher type) looses her memories with Alzheimer's disease and does not know who you are; a sister much younger has leukemia; your oldest child dies in a car accident; your wife of decades decides that you do not support her in the manner of which she is accustomed (just after the IRS asks for money to pay back taxes which you do not have); you dog is poisoned by a neighbor and you learn that you have a brain tumor. Might you feel a little ambivalence toward life?

Not usually. There are times when it is necessary to make a decision, but if there is room to straddle the fence, it can often be the wisest course.

I have long believed that the ability to suspend judgment until you've had time to examine the facts and analyze them in light of your values is a valuable gift. It keeps you from jumping to the wrong side of the fence just because you jumped too soon.

As to choosing which side you are going to follow, Satan or Jesus, yes it is wrong.

There is no middle ground, we start out on Satan's side and we must make a decision to join with Jesus.
