I wake several times each night due to painful neuropathy, but I find that the day times are worse. I use elbow crutches to get about, but it's a good thing that I do. When I get the 'stabbing' sensations through my feet and into my lower legs, it almost throws me off my feet. Obviously, you know yourself that you get no forewarning, so I could be half way across a road when it happens.

I beg to differ with colcath. There are treatments available. I'm currently taking Gabapentin (it's actually an anti-epilepsy drug), but one of the side effects, particularly for the large doses that I'm taking, is that it creates sleepiness. There are other treatments available. Speak to your doctor, or your diabetes specialist nurse for more information.
